Recommendations For A Good Back Protector?

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by domcross, Aug 7, 2018.

  1. Evening all,

I've got a couple of jackets that I wear to ride and neither has great back protection, so I'm thinking of getting a good back/chest protector that I can wear under any jacket. Any recommendations welcome as there seems to be a LOT of choice out there!

One of my jackets has elbow and shoulder protection, but nothing in the back and no pocket for it.

    Cheers,
    Dom.

  3. +1 for Forcefield. Knox would have been my second choice.
I got my back protector from J&S, the sales guy was real helpful with sizing, left to my own devices I would have bought the wrong size

  4. Forcefield without a hesitation, it's soft armour so it moulds to your body better and can be crashed in multiple times if you use if for MX or track (hopefully not road but the same applies). I wear the adventure suit which has chest and back as well as removable arms but if you dont like the bulk you can also get just the back. I think I have a like new back protector spare which I could sell you since I always use the full suit and I have just bought a new one because they sponsor our team.

  5. PM sent :)

  6. Forcefield then Knox :)

  7. Mine is an old Lidl one that I’ve had for years and has supported my back in a fair number of crashes.

These days, i’m Considering an airbag vest and use that

  8. Have a Forcefield back and chest protector I wear under my leathers that don't have back armour. Works really well, comfortable but is hotter than my jacket with back armour built in.

A friend tested his by body-slamming a Mitsubishi L200 in ahead on collision, mangled his leg, still not properly healed some six years ago. Had there not been fog at Preston which forced the air ambulance to Middlesbrough instead he would have had it amputated (possibly a better outcome TBH). Leg injury was created by, or at the least made considerably worse IMHO by his knee slider. Anyway, the Forcefield saved his life I reckon and was why I went out a bought one straight away.

  9. Excuse me spamming the video everywhere but you might be interested to know that my Dianese airbag suit did not go off during this crash because the GPS had not locked in so the Forcefield bodysuit basically took the whole impact. It was probably 120-130mph through Starkeys Bridge at Donnington so its likely enabled me to walk away from some serious damage. The whiplash of rolling gave me a bit of concussion and I couldn't tell the doctors what day or month it was afterwards but was ok after an hour or two rest.

  10. I’d be sending the bastard back! 0.01% failure is too high a rate, so 1 in 1 most definitely is!

  11. It's clearly stated in the instructions that the suit will not operate if the GPS has not locked on. It took me a while looking at the data to realise what was going on. Interestingly my gopro GPS was not working properly either so I think there must have been some kind of atmospheric blocking of the GPS signal due to the heavy thunderstorms that day? The last big highside I had was at Donnington last year and the suit operated as it should, and it also operated at Mugello where I low sided but then did a comedy slow motion cartwheel which set it off.

  12. Bloody hell mate!! That was pretty epic! Was it the rain that caught you out? I did several laps of CD in an F1 car a few years back and it was just starting to rain...made for some interesting oversteer right where you went off :) Pleased you walked away from that one.

  13. I have a Knox, never had to find out if it worked or not. Can sell It to you if you want it?

  14. And another vote for Forcefield, quality kit.

  15. Yeah it was the rain. It had been spitting on my helmet for the last ten or fifteen laps but I could see the track was still pretty dry so I was going hard to try and keep heat in my tyres. I had a few warning spin ups in previous laps at the bottom of craner as that area had a bit more rain falling on it and then it let go without warning at Starkeys bridge the next corner. Apparently there's a bit of a bump there according to the marshall. I'm going to make more of an effort in the future to do track walks.

  16. Just jumping on this.

Forcefield seems to be the way to go. Which model do peeps recommend? I have a couple of dealers local to me to try sizing.

  19. Get the new Forcefield Isolator 2 level 2 armour. About £35 for the back jacket insert.
