I recently attended my first track day on my 98' 916 which to my knowledge is in standard spec apart from some debaffled standard end cans, but was left feeling a little short changed by the fact it would not go over 140mph the bike rev'd cleanly through all gears bar top and is running well but no matter how much I tucked in 140 was top end, it felt like it hit a wall, the revs stopped climbing and the speedo sat still, being passed by 748's proved to me it wasn't head wind. I know the bikes getting near its pension age and I'm not expecting it to do the 160mph as stated in the spec sheets but 140 tells me something ain't quite right ! Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Could a previous owner have changed the sprockets for quicker acceleration at the sacrifice of top speed?
