I'm getting old. Now I'm back riding again the position is killing me so after a bit of research on here (and Google) it seems a set of clip-on risers might alleviate my pain. Those previously recommended on here (Ferraci and Woodcote) no longer seem to be available and I'm loath to buy things un-recommended and/or at random off EBay. Can anyone recommend a set of bar risers and also, if you've fitted them to your 748/916/996 can I use the standard controls or do I have to change things like the throttle cable? Thanks in advance. BTW it's a 1999MY 748
I'm old also but manage for the time being with the standard bars, some just swap the bar's over from left to right and visa versa, riser's usually give clearance problems with the fairing , you will have to modify or make new fluid reservoir brackets. Someone might be along that's done the mod themselves. Steve
As Birdie says, try swapping the bars over.I did mine, just changing the left and right clamps over.Deffo a good move.
I do pilates at least once a week and try and ride around 200km a week and this is the best option in my opinion and doesn't hurt the bike.
Ducabike make two types. An adjustable type and one with a 53mm rise. I have the adjustable ones and they work very well. I had to adjust the position of the brake reservoir slightly as i have an RCS brake m/c as well. http://ducabike.com/ducatiparts/en/206-superbike-748-916-996-998
I have Gilles variobars on mine. I fitted some adjustable bars on the MV from performance parts de but they don't have them for Ducatis they do have some raised bars which are fixed https://www.performanceparts.de/en/...ebar-DUCATI-748-916-996-998.html#&gid=1&pid=1 I tried swapping bars over but it felt weird my wrists were turned in and it made the steering vague
These are the Gilles variobars that I have https://calsport.co.uk/ducati-748-9...ailable-raises-bars-by-15mm-bar-end/vb-53-sab
Try Stein Dinse. They had replacements for the original bar risers. These are original Ducati bar risers and you can see how much they raise the bars.
I've got Cyclecat bars on mine which are great as they are adjustable in every direction as the fork clamps move up/down/around and the bar clamps have eccentric adjusters for the angle, unfortunately I think they're out of business now though? Adjustability is great but you can't raise them much or you'll hit the fairing, whereas altering the angle can make a big difference but the biggest benefit, IMO is that the bars are longer meaning you get more leverage/control and with your arms wider it's more comfortable. I did need a longer throttle cable though, can't remember exactly which model it was but I got a cable from an ST model (ST4?) which is identical, other than being about 2" longer so fits perfectly.
I'm obviously not as bright as i thought i was !!! .... Which parts do you swap left - right to improve ride height of the bars..?? Thanks
You swap the whole handle bars. I did it a long time ago rode about a mile and a half down the road went home and swapped them back. It's not straightforward Initially if I recall correctly I removed the bars from the clamps and swapped the clamps over but that was no good because the controls were in the wrong position and the bolts to clamp the bars wouldn't fit Everything put back in place I then removed the controls swapped the whole bars over. You then have to remove the locating pins inside the switchgear and throttle before they go back on It's not worth the effort but I am sure others think it is. The only bonus is at least it's free apart from your time
