Hi All, Any tips for using the Go Pro on the bike? I've got a suction mount and have taken a few videos. Have a Hero 4. Suggested best places to mount etc... Some of the videos I've taken actually look less dramatic than they actually are (Ie. I don't think video gives the same sense of speed.) And can I improve the sound quality with an external mike? Do I have to get a different case? Cheers in advance... G
I’ve a Ram Mount ball on the steering damper mounting bolt on my Monster 12R, works a treat. Plenty of mounting kits and options on fleabay
I'd avoid a suction mount and go for the dedicated fittings with 3M adhesive pads, loads on eBay. Personally, I've just fitted mine to the front of my helmet after seeing a mates footage located the same way.
I always video my runs for later analysis. The best place in my opinion is a suction mount on the tank to the side of the petrol filler, and I use a tie off string to the key ring or to one of the bolts but I've never had it come off. It means you can see your dash and clipons which makes the video more interesting. They don't like tank mounted cameras at races or some track days but you can usually get away with it. The other good choice for me is the mounts that Dave Parmenter makes https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100010476223390 which sit behind the yoke. He's on here but I'm not sure of his username? You cant see the clipons but you can see the dash still and it's a very reliable mount.
Front mounted camera angles get boring unless you are chasing someone , rear mounted ones are only good if you are a girl with a great ass, and ones that face backwards are only good if you have someone chasing you really close.
I bought this one from eBay. Italian made and carbon fibre comes with the bolts to extend About 40 quid delivered Steve
Best footage I see tends to come from the ones mounted on the chin of the helmet. Not allowed that on track though
Went for this chin mount. I thought it would obscure vision, but it's spot on. The beauty is that when you press record / stop, you can see whether you are recording or not. Also a quick look down at the screen shows you what you are filming.
Have t you tried it on the track or at speed? I have an aluminium one in the same style as yours & above 145 mph it starts to move up & down. Its fitted tightly as are the GoPro fixings to the bracket. Andy
Does this work ok on track Rob? I've tried mounting on the side of the helmet but I always end up looking down where I'm tucking behind the screen.
I've never been on a track. It's fine when tootling aroung on my Hyperstrada, basically sitting up. I'd be inclined to mount the GoPro to the bike if I was going on the trak tbh.
