A fairly mad racing Ducati 250 single, without kickstart needless to say, rode it home slipping the clutch at lights. But those were the days circa 1979.
the first one for me was a 748. i went to have a look to buy one,and toke a test drive whit it. came home whit a 916 instead. henk!!!
A 748E which I bought brand new in 2002 after about 12 years break from riding. Spent several months looking around for a good s/h one and saw ads for bips sp, sps and really had no idea what was what so stopped into my local dealer and looked at a s/h model he had in stock for I think about £4.5k and after about 5 mins decided that for another couple of grand I might as well buy a new one so I put down a cash deposit and a week later picked up my first Duke. Happy to say that over 10 years and 22000 miles later I've still got it along with a couple more and I'm getting an itch to buy another, well it has been 4years now since I bought one so it's long overdue.
Monster 600 that i bought when i also owned a Blade...i used to giggle my head off grinding the cans into oblivion on every corner or every roundabout..couldnt wait to get rid of it though coz it was so unreliable...i bought a lemon..next bike was my first 916 and the blade which i adored was consigned to history..never looked back.
600SS, right after passing my test, went into Reading to "look" at bikes... Saw this Red thing sat outside Pegasus, didn't have a fooking clue what I was buying...Loved it! Thought it was a b@stard rocket ship after the 125 training/test bike...!
My first was a 944'd 900SS that was for sale in a Brisbane Ducati dealership. I was trying to swap him my VTR1000 but he wouldn't do the deal. I loved that thing, it wasn't as quick as the VTR but it was something completely different and I was hooked. I bought a 996 2 years after I moved to London and haven't looked back Although I did flirt with a ZX10R .. sold that reasonably quick though.
my first ride was at the galleria Bimota many years ago. They kindly asked if I'd like to ride a bike in through the door as they were shuffling the display around. It was a DB2. After that I took a 750ss out for a demo and a year later had my first 900ss, glad I did, as the alternative was going to be a vfr400. I still remember fondly being in Jack Lilley in Sheperton and they fired up a superlight 1 on termi's inside the shop, took my breath away.
I bought my 999s 18 months ago: an absolutely pristine Mono Nero with only 1,800 miles and not a speck of dirt on it. HAD to buy it. I wobbled home, finding it hard to turn in to corners but absolutely loving the masses of torque and the fact that the awesome sound when hammering it hard out of corners just totally reminded me of watching Hodgson and Xaus dominating World Superbikes. Love it
