DB, with all that information out there, could you wade through the glut of info to find information that was relevant to you or did you need help? As an example, I was under the impression there were 4 types of cancer, Cancer.gov says there are over 100 types of cancer and Cancer reserach U.K. say there are over 200 types of cancer. It must be a nightmare finding out specific to you, your type of cancer info?
The only info site I use is Myeloma Uk and I’m part of a closed forum on Facebook and both have a wealth of information I wouldn’t look anywhere else and have been advised not too. My consultant gave me a booklet to take home on diagnosis to read. That booklet has been invaluable for my kids and friends to read, at diagnosis it was easier to give anyone I talked to the booklet to thumb through. The Renton unit in Hereford is a wealth of information also with help for finances etc Macmillan not so as all help I needed was done over the phone and letter as there aren’t enough people to go round that felt very cold and unhelpful at the time There is a support group for Myeloma here but as it’s generally an older persons cancer the group is mainly older men, I only attended once. All in all the information I have needed has been available to me
Ah Pete that’s lovely You know your always welcome for coffee at mine if your this way anytime One thing you can do for me stay positive and keep your thoughts positive for me No one is allowed to be sad after 5 mins I know positivity has got me this far so imagine all of you on here doing the same ...... AMAZING!!!!
Horrible diseases, I really hope you find a way through it. As been said before we all have lost family and friends to the big C and it doesn't seem to be getting any better but that may just be perception - here's hoping you are one of the ones who get through it. You sound like you'd be a good poster success for a cure, best of luck
Positivity is good, being smart about getting info is good, and you are doing both very well. Very proud of you, so I am.
I’m sure it the cure needed as Myeloma is genetic and the gene that causes it could be found and tweaked to destroy the Myeloma cells I’m hoping
All this Cut and paste DNA double helix and superhero blood cells is great stuff. Not only is it less damaging to the patient, it provides the ammo for the body t fight back permanently. The issue with most cancers is it's remission, not cure. Using Immuno stuff can allow the body to guard against any further issues.
I’m in awe of you Viv and how you’ve dealt with it. Truly. When I was first diagnosed with cancer I felt embarrassed to talk about it. I kind of put it to the back of my mind. I’m sure those around me felt the stress more than I did because I couldn’t and didn’t talk to them about it. I have moved on though and I can and do talk to people about it now. Keep strong. Keep positive. And if you need to talk you know where I am xx
Thanks ET Cancer from what I see sometimes becomes a taboo subject it needs to be as talked about as coffee and cake as should death
Awwww thanks for all your lovely support in all ways it’s a lovely feeling and keeps me positive Any questions you want answering feel free to ask
