Multistrada 1200 Newbie Question

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Yelow, Sep 14, 2018.

  1. Hello i have newbie question, so i bought this multistada 1200S, im trying to insure it, when i fill number plates i have 2 options to choose:
    Ducati mutistrada 1200 S touring
    Ducati mutistrada 1200 S Sprot

To find out which one is mine i decoded vin and here what i got:
    Make:Ducati
    Model:Multistrada (MTS)
    Series:1200S

I was searching the forum what mts stands for and i understand that its touring version. Also i found that touring version have heated grips, side panners, and center stand as a standard, Sport have only some carbon detailing. Mine have heated grips, dont have neither panners neither center stand and have bunch of carbon detailing, so im completely confused which one is it?

  2. welcome Dave and thread moved

  3. Welcome :):upyeah:
Thought MTS was short for MulTiStrada

If it’s a Sprot they are v.rare

  4. Heated grips are likely to have been a retro fit so IMO, you have a 1200S Sport. There were no differences in engine or performance between the two. Andy

  5. Post up some pics. Has it got a carbon nose?

Punching in my old multi reg, into various online checkers (for tax/mot/stolen), it shows correctly as a touring. Maybe try that.

  6. No centre stand suggests it's not a Touring. As said, heated grips could be retrofit. Has it got Õhlins forks? Suggests S version, and should say 1200 S on tail unit.

  7. I think you'll find they all say ‘1200 S’ and had ohlins

  8. Here’s my old touring model. Heated grips and centre stand. Remember that plenty of people removed the centre stand because they ground out. Carbon nose would be a telltale sign of a sport as that would likely be an expensive bit of carbon to add to a touring whereas the odd smattering of carbon would just be customisation.

I still think a reg check will see you right.

  9. Pah,, zero points for no bins....
    Where’s the Termi?

  10. Old photo. Picked the one that showed “1200 S” on the side ;)

Have some cheeky peekaboo background bins and Akrapovics... although the bike is now Orange

  12. Bah! Didn't know about the label!
I should have identified the electronic Öhlins as distinctive.
That'll teach me to set myself up!
And if I'd read the OP properly, they'd already said it was an S!
    ...

  13. You’ll want the Ohlins SCU upgrade next.... makes the bike fantastic.

  14. Just did some reading about scu..What is the best place to get SCU? ebay? Is there an option to remap old one?

  15. ‘13 twin spark and ‘14 onwards DVT would be skyhook. Electronic Ohlins only appeared on the original mk1 up to the MY2012 and again after a gap on the Pikes Peak
No and as far as I know, no. IMO, best buy new from Ohlins. Andy
