1200 Bike Fell Over In Garage! Handguard Broken

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Adz, Sep 21, 2018.

  1. I took the wheels off my bike yesterday (after borrowing an impact driver to remove the rear wheel.)
It was on the centre stand overnight, with a trolley jack under the sump guard to raise the front.
It felt fairly sturdy but the wind was really bad last night and it must have got under the garage door.
Anyway, it fell during the night onto it's side.
I've surveyed the damage and luckily it fell into my mountain bikes and roof rack, so minimal damage.
In fact, the broken right hand hand guard seems to be the only issue.
I'm trying to araldite it as a temporary fix but does anyone have a spare or can recommend a place where I could get one, please?

Any help would be really appreciated.
    Cheers, Adz

  2. Main dealer, or take the opportunity to swap for something far less flimsy and get some touratech or similar ones

  3. Cheers for the reply. I'm online now but can't see any replacements that have the indicators like the Originals.

  4. I meant I found the handguard in Stock at MotoRapido
I was surprised how cheap it was, hence I'm a bit sceptical if it's the correct part.

  5. Iirc its not that expensive. But then its the thinnest plastic ever!

  6. Yes, Hand Guard is a misnomer. It's no more than a wind deflector. When mine broke I got a replacement from Moto Rapido too. I can't remember the price but it wasn't too bad. It'll probably come bare so you'll need to swap the indicator over.

  7. Those jacks are not foul proof. They loose their pressure and slowly come down. Had this happen to me as well.

  8. Yes, very true.
I couldn't find anything suitable for underneath though and my axle stands didn't fit. Lesson learned, hopefully.

  9. Yep , I always back up any jacks with some wood packing or the like. Can never trust the hydraulics. Scares the bejesus out of me when I see people working under vehicles with no axle stands etc o_O

  10. as stated, they're cheap as you need to swap the indicator over. Nice surprise when you're expecting Ducati to have your eyes out.

  11. If the ceiling of your garage has a hook or bar of some kind (or if you can fix one), the wheel-less bike can be supported by ratchet straps from above in addition to the jack, stand, or blocks below. Just for peace of mind. Works for me.

  12. Unfortunately not at the moment.
I did consider it at one stage but never got round to it.
I may well look into that in the future though cheers.

  13. You might be surprised that the main dealers are not silly money, if I remember rightly and for more protection, do the enduro handguards fit the strada too?

  14. I had the same thing happen. I bought a new one from the dealer, $68 USD. Then I bought Bark Busters so it can't happen again.

  15. I paid £19, including delivery.
    It almost seems too cheap.

  16. I had one from MotoRapido for £19, swapped the indicator over and job done. Lasted 7 or 8 months before I snapped it again. Want to just get standard indicators and reservoir mounts then take the guards off

  17. Wonder if some DP from a recent Monster would fit the front and match the DP Multi rears?

Agree that the stock handguards are flimsy and only really something to keep the wind off your paws - daft idea having the reservoir mounts built into the silver plastic part.

I'm slowly building an M900 up and have Brembo radial mc's on it which are very similar to the Multi Brembo's and I've purchased some M1200 brackets to mount them from the bracket / mirror mount area so its definately do-able.

  18. I managed to drop the bike in Sardinia this week and broke mine. It was a stationary tip over on a sloping corner. Annoying but managed to make a fix at the side of the road with a couple of splints (an Allen key and convenient stick) held with cable ties and a bit of gaffa.

It’s held up over the last 5 days at motorway speeds. I also had the Ducabike ends fitted which I think prevented more damage, bark busters would have been better
