851 Ignition Pick Ups

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by wee epy, Oct 1, 2018.

  1. Hi guys
just joined the forum and looking for some advice.
just recommissioned my 89 851 1 have put engine back in after a rebuild.
problem is that I am unsure about the two ignition pick up wires
they connect into two separate wires in the loom. one has a wrap round label with an M on it, and the other had a C on the label wrapped around it.
the question is- which wire connects to front and which to the rear pick ups.
    can anyone help?

  3. @Mr.R ??

  4. It is the same as my 907ie but I'd need to take the fairing off to find out. If it doesn't start just swap the connectors round.

  5. Welcome to the forum Mr 851:motorcycleduc::upyeah:

  6. C is for "cam", M is for "motor". C is the timing pick up located to the left of the water pump (same position as a single sensor engine) and the "M" sensor is the one on the top of the alternator cover.

  8. That makes sense. As it turns out I have connected them correctly- 50/50 chance I suppose.
Still got to fill engine with oil and radiator with water and fit exhausts,
hopefully good to go- will keep you guys posted.
also need to introduce myself once I find the newbies section.
