848 Wheres The Bottom?

  1. Its been a few weeks into my hunt for the stablemate and amazing the bid/offer spread with these things plus the significant dip in prices once the season ends....

bikes that i was happy to pay 5.5 for a few weeks ago are now hovering around the 5k mark

fair value to me looks like around 4.8k for an early base model drifting towards 4.5k

selllers are still commanding in season prices for their bikes but looking at completed listings on teh bay plus viewing numerous bikes its clear that stuff isnt really shifting

if you had one that you wanted to sell what price do you think you would acheive?

its also clear that the age old ducati hang up with 'specials' clearly rings true with base models clearly not commanding the same level of excitement as their R or S brethren

  2. 848R now that would be special...

  3. its the 1098R!

  4. 848 prototype

  5. once owned by a george lawrence..

  6. I’d say under £5k for 08/09 models with around 5-10k on the clock is about right. As expected, lots of people over estimate their bikes and (mistakenly) think having a low mileage minter is rare.

Personally speaking, I wouldn’t pay a penny over £6k for any 848 no matter the mileage or year.

  7. i think youre bang on with the potential minor exception of those sitting on the evo corse se?

  8. Surprised they never done an official 848 S or R.

  9. Yep, that’s a good point. I did forget about that model. I always chuck loads of mileage on my bikes so tend to ignore the thought of ever buying the special versions.

  10. IMO, for the sake of a few hundred £, get the bike. Life's to short.

  11. if it was rare then yes id be less dogmatic and that was the modus for the R... dont worry, i will get one soon and become a track legend by the end of next year

  12. All this season stuff sounds like an excuse not to buy. They're the same bikes people would still want all over again in a few months, so just buy them if they're liked? Someone else will end up with something folk wish they'd have made a decision on. This is where the above couldn't be more true. What will be said in April? The bikes are older now so too dear again? Nonsense.

My Evo Corse SE is going up for £7.5 cat N, or £7,750 ono. You won't want it but someone else will for sure, I'm just saying. Autumn, Winter whatever. Price is what it is, I'm going to use it myself probably anyway, so we'll see.

It'll be like other stuff, people think things 'have' to be sold, and either don't make the effort to see them and make offers, or silly offers in person, or the seller does knock a bit off then they try to haggle more when collecting, I cancelled the sale once for this. Time wasters and chancers with no money.

  13. I'm glad you got that off your chest.

  14. Not connected at all. But I’m thinking of changing cars, and debating used vs new. And come across a 15 plate a4 tdi Quattro with good spec, 20k miles for 10k which is 6k under retail price. Cat C bought and repaired by selling garage.

Sounds a bargain I need to do look at, given I could spend 33k on the bmw I’m looking at, run for 2 years, lose 13k min in value vs buy car, run until it’s terminally broken, scrap and still be better off.

Just like Corse SE up there ^^

  15. Not sure as I know of a a sub 2k mile near new evo corse se that could be had for 8000 and I know which I'd rather have

I've honed in on a boggo 848 so I can throw the extra cash towards tuition and track days!

  16. I wouldn’t pay anything like 20% close to the price of same bike, but hpi clear. 8k on market, 5500 for me.

  17. So you'd only pay 5.5 for the bike I mentioned?

  18. ;O)

cat c on a car can be quite a thing, so with good pictures before during and after with a list of changed parts then ok, also a clear fault history after a drive just in case codes are cleared before, a full geometry report, and a price difference. Legally those vehicles have to be disclosed, but d doesn't. A moral issue only.

we have to remember we didn't always have hpi and some classic bikes or cars would have fetched perfectly respectable money when people just simply didn't know, and still will with a buoyant modern classic market. Restoration may be used instead of damage repaired and folk get fooled.

with bikes, a consideration is that more damage can have been suffered, usually from track days, but other spills too, and with plenty of folk wishing to avoid a claim and repair or conceal it it's very risky. There will be examples in showrooms now. So knowing what I'm looking at, any bike that either was known to have done track days or showed signs of that use, I'd want panels off for my inspection for sure, if I actually ever gave them a second glance that is. Roy Jervis was one showroom with a suspect bike.

so it's ok dismissing the quality of a known crashed bike, which if exotic was actually likely a d/n if the insurance company simply chose not to repair which happens due to parts availability not just cost, when the reality is they can be a nicer bike than the hpi clear ones in showrooms. If a dealer has a bike with a small mark on the frame they'll have a local repair done, but it it's a claim when you have it it's a loss and nobody wants it haha.

if you're no mechanic and can't see stuff then of course why would you look, but trusting what's on display in the showroom when it's a bike of a type that 'could' have seen track, paying top money without an inspection is naïve and foolish if you read these forums and know better, but only my2p.

Would you really prefer one you can't see, or one you can?

sorry to go on, like I say, just my2p ;O)

  19. If it was cat c yes (8k full average price) But that doesn’t mean it’s what it’s worth: just what it’s worth to me :)

  20. Really tempted by the A4....
