But a simple piece of legislation could save millions of pounds each year for better causes (eg. nurses wages, NHS, road improvements) than the, by default, spending of cretins who choose bad choices because they don't consider potential consequences. As far as I'm concerned, numpties who ride in shorts are criminals (morally, if not legally) and it's just so easy to fix. So you'd lose the 'freedom' to wear shorts. Who would give a shit if the money was being spent better elsewhere on much more deserving causes? 'No, my 'freedom' is worth loads more than a few intensive baby care units'. If people think that and still made the 'stupid' choice they are sociopaths.
The govt. could easily determine an adequate level eg. CE level 1 (raise to CE 2 if 1 proves not enough). Smokers have already paid for their treatment hundreds of times over (in taxes). If the level of taxes for obesity-making foods were the same, the NHS would be in profit. Kids are just a fact of life and will pay it forward when they start paying taxes (and I'm not opposed to giving childless people tax breaks). Bikes aren't dangerous in the scheme of things, it's their riders that are dangerous - consider the amount of KSIs for IAM/RosPA riders vs. those who haven't done any training after the test. The measure of any decision is, if you had to make the same choice again, already knowing the consequences, would you take it? I'm sure as hell that guy and his family wishes he'd had more than shorts on.
Yeah, the govt. should change the laws to save all the grief and cost, lets ban motorbikes, that would solve it, it would only affect a few citizens.
So why do I have to wear a full set of leathers, boots and gloves in 35 degrees on a track day in Jerez, surely the fact that its not a road, theres no drains or slippery white lines, everyones on motorbikes and going the same way round and there are no cars or cyclists makes it the safest piece of tarmac in the world?
Perhaps because those are the rules of the that track and if you dont follow them you cant ride on it ?
Every non biker would think that all bikers were the idiots who do dangerous things. New laws and banning stuff is just the thin end of the wedge.
