Not surprising over dramatic hype and gloom from Sky News, but would you believe Bob Geldof is weighing in trying to suggest Brexit will negatively impact the British music industry What a complete and utter load of bollocks https://news.sky.com/story/musicians-warn-industry-could-lose-voice-after-brexit-11520003
You could argue that Bob Geldof negatively impacted the British music industry more so than even the most apocalyptic prediction of Brexit ever could.
No chance of that Jim, he's making a fortune tarmacing driveways of pensioners. *Apologies to Irish people and pikie fly by night tarmac layers who are offended by being associated with the Geldork.
Thats the cars for U.K. market sorted then and local air quality compromised. What about the 90% of product that gets shipped to Europe and beyond? What about the added complexity that having twice as many models brings to 1) production line assembly 2) supplier management 3) part number management 4) certification 5) marketing/catalogues/websites Amongst others. These were some of the reasons which made the single market a good idea. It reduced bureaucracy. Freedom of movement, workers rights, social laws, like holiday and paternity leave are equal across all of Europe to reduce the flow of jobs to say Hungary or Spain if they set up sweat shops. It looks like May is going to sign up to us remaining in the customs union and us keeping the 4 freedoms. Scotland will be happy NI will be happy Eire will be happy Wales will be relieved England? I think a big chunk will be furious
Twice as many models? Where do you get that from? Cars that are built for global markets are built on the same production lines right now with specifications dictated by the legislation in place for that market, it's no big deal at all however much you would like it to be. JLR aren't manufacturing Range Rovers in every country they sell them in.
Still missing the point: its choice that counts. Sometimes, they are hard choices: do we put people out of work for the good of other people (someone will always lose out, regardless); do we offer the opportunity of dual-manufacturing and support industry to invest in the appropriate liones (cars for example shipped birth right and left hand drive, simply with different power plants). It’s all about choice. One of those choices may be, at some point, to reintroduce an agreement for freedom of movement, But, we may choose only to work with several countries, for example France, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portuigal, and exclude the later entry countries. Ie places where are Brits we often go and work and live.
“Twice as many” was an off the cuff remark. What the actual factor is I don’t know because I don’t know how many markets say the Nissan plant supplies to. But the fact remains. As soon as you change the spec, you change the part number and you add cost and complexity. I know this because i work in manufacturing. And manufacturers don’t like it. They continually work towards reducing catalogue numbers. Even if it means upgrading some items at a material cost. So for example. Say the U.K. lowers its emissions targets. I bet you the European manufacturers will just keep supplying the same product with better performance. Then the arch brexiteers will want a boycott of Mercedes because they ignore our laws. How dare they supply something better. Or if we have a free trade agreement with the USA, which includes food and the high levels of maggots and fly eggs. Are we expecting European manufacturers to drop their standards? I don’t think they will. They will stick a label on which says “no maggots in out food”
Ah, OK. I bow to your superior knowledge, I'll have to visit one of these car plants one day to see how it's done.
is that how it works then? in england its only the car workers and Scotland the billionaire fleet owners of the North East that call the shots?
World manufacturers won't build vehicles just for a UK market. Nissan say 81% of its Sunderland factory production is exported.
Exactly! Arch brexiteers will moan about having to buy a Euro spec car when they wanted their own laws. You could not make it up
You know that’s not the point, but well done for joining that band of blinkered ignorant How does that suggestion differ to what is now allowable BY THE EU with regard to people from Thailand? Or US?
