Unless you're swimming the channel or rowing a boat, how else are you going to get out of the country without needing to show your passport at some control?
I think that this must be a UK thing. Those who have travelled will know what I mean. I used to ride my BMW in Germany without a helmet when I was young. I have never regretted it, apart from the flies that I have eaten. I left the UK in 2004 to come and live here in France, the French people generally have a live and let live attitude and would not dream of trying to police what others do when they have no authority to do so. I see the UK as becoming more and more a Nanny state.
Ocean going yachts. Lots of people have them. People like you might be happier when you accept that having the the right to choose for yourself, automatically means that everyone else does too.
Would you have regretted it if, whilst riding without a helmet, you'd have sustained a serious head injury, or lost an eye to a bee? Of course you would. Nobody ever regrets it when bad things that could happen don't happen to them. Wouldn't it be better for the money saved to go to a worthy cause than to patch up people? We're not talking neo-Naziism, just something with a bit of sense - like seat belts and helmets.
Not when the cost to our country is so much for such a small thing sacrificed. Let's treat it as a charity thing - Ride in protective gear for the kiddies.
Of course there's no regrets, you got away with it. If you'd fallen off and suffered brain damage, then spent the rest of your days drooling and shitting into a bag, maybe they'd be regrets then, both for you and you and your partner. Crack on mate...
I'm not saying it should be a law to do it for charity. Why can't people debate the actual points? What is the actual, reasonable in the eyes of society, objection to not having to wear PPE that will stop you hurting yourself as badly? What is the actual down side to the individual worth vs. the potential downside to the country?
OK, pedantic, I was using passport as a general term for border controls. You need to be able to prove who you are and where you're from, so that's not freedom.
WTF are you talking about. You have the right to make your own choices. You have no right to make choices for anyone else. Why do you not understand this very basic concept?

Another one who can't answer questions because he has no decent argument. I understand perfectly. I'm not trying to make choices for others - I want govt. to - they already do this with plenty of things because that's why they're there. Not every choice they make is popular, or intelligent, but that's how society works. I just see no benefit to letting idiots who make bad choices spend taxpayer money needlessly.
