Just seen this when having a nosy on E-bay and it just looked so good without to many frills. Steve Ducati 984 Cafe Racer (by Chris Clarke Ducati) | eBay
Nice wheels. Motor maybe nice , depending on fullspec. But...................paint scheme a sickener - knocks huge chunks off the value.
As said already something wrong with paint job .... to much red? I was under impression you have to have Speedo for the road?
As soon as you paint your engine red you make it look like a child's toy. Cf Honda XLV 750. I wouldn't be seen dead on it.
Not for me! Shame as Chris Clarke MC's supplied some fantastic tuning kits for the Bandy 900 SS's. I remember PB testing the 984cc and 944cc SS's and compared them with a Standard SS. Very good results at the time.
Not liking the engine or the swing arm painted, i remember the article. Is it just the colours bringing it down, would it look better in different clothes?
Well I am surprised at most of the comments ( the type of people that won't buy a house because the living rooms got the wrong colour wallpaper on ) I think Cranker summed it up about right. I like it probably because I still hanker after the cafe racer still from my youth, with a different paint job I would love it, as for value I wouldn't have a clue.
You have a point but a different price league and there's not much to paint. Get rid of a lot of red from the engine and leave the tank, seat and frame.
Paint is important. In fact it's one of the most important parts of a bike. This guy got it wrong. The paint scheme he chose makes the bike look too heavy at the rear, and the mis-match between seat and tank makes it look like a bitsa or unfinished project. With the right paint the bike would look fantastic, but it hasn't got the right paint, so he'll have to take a hit over the price. Life is cruel sometimes...
Couldn't agree more, perhaps as a joiner I have to picture a finished article before I start making it, the same applied here I could see beyond the paint. Steve
Ducati did a couple of red/silver colour schemes in the early 90s and they always looked shite. They are just two colors that don't work together. I think this particular bike looks as if it was lashed together in a lock-up by someone with no aesthetic sensitivities at all. Or have I already said that? Even the bits of polished engine cover are wrong. Gag me with a spoon!!!!
