Obd Fiat 3 Pin Connector Issue 749 - 2004

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Cromwelluk, Oct 9, 2018.

  1. Looking to connect to the OBD - Jpdiag , got the recommended cables but cant get Fiat connector to fit the Superseal socket , even ordered another just in case but both are the same
Dont worry I'm certified LOL I cut away the Fiat plug shroud to see why they do not connect
The fiat plug pins are 3 mm and the OBD socket are smaller 2 mm
Has anybody else had this problem ?

Done several Forum searches and just want to confirm on the 749 its the 3 pin superseal socket on the left of the battery box with only 2 cables

Also on different models the OBD socket looks different and matches the Fiat plug

So I've ordered some Supeseal plug and sockets and will remake the fiat connector

  2. Not come across this before. You will get better results using a Fiat adaptor with both red and black fly leads not just a single red.

  3. Chris ,Apologies I just googled the images but never noticed the pic had only the red fly lead , mine have a Red & Black leads
Even used links in the forum posts to buy the same cables , I've checked and double checked but it would not fit
and the 749 reference the obd plug with 2 cables, as a Sparky this should have been a doddle LOL

last night measured the fiat blades and they are 3 mm , tried a separate 3 mm blade in the Superseal plug and it too wide , only got a 2 pin Supeprseal in the garage and they are 2 mm and look to be the correct size
Hopefully the new plugs will be a perfect fit
Just for peace of mind can you confirm I have the correct OBD connector and it has 2 cables so that can be ticked off the list as correct

  4. You can just see the diagnostic connector at the very bottom of this picture, below the ECU.
    Screen Shot 2018-10-11 at 09.40.36.png
    It's a 3 pin Superseal with only 2 wires connected;
    Pin 1 = N/C
    Pin 2 = Black/violet, ECU ground
    Pin 3 = Orange/white, ECU K-line

Like Chris I've had no problem with Fiat adaptors either.

  5. It is not the connector visible in the picture. It is found on the left side of the battery box held with a rubber strap and should have a cap covering it.

  6. Oops! I haven't got a 749/999 but have done a few. I remember it as being tucked in about the base of the battery ahead of the ECU. I can't think what else the connector in the pic would be, sidestand maybe? The wire colours should identify the diagnostic connector though.

  7. Brilliant that confirms the socket position etc:upyeah:, I was 99.9 % sure it was the one I was using ( saves an embarrassing schoolboy error LOL) ordered another cable if that does not fit its got to be the OBD socket
Just got to wait for Postie now

  8. Cheers , All sorted the new 3 pin superseal plugs arrived today and the swapped the Fiat plug over and it fitted ok
As posted above the Fiat plug blades were too wide to fit in the bikes OBD plug 749 obd plug.jpg IMG_20181013_152527808.jpg plug difference.jpg IMG_20181013_152929175.jpg IMG_20181013_152831494.jpg JPdiag connected.JPG
