I’d still say he is a winner and a hell of a rider. Being marginally put in the shade by MM and continuing to throw yourself at it to keep trying is a winner in my eyes. He wins MotoGP races and is a world champion, I just don’t see how he can be classed as anything but a winner. Suggesting he isn’t because he cannot beat Marquez to the championship isn’t really an argument, because almost nobody has beaten him since he arrived on the scene, and certainly nobody on the same bike.....
Cal has British and world supersport championships under his belt...and far more success than Brooke’s and most others
On that measure, Rossi isn’t a winner either. Lol Cal is more a winner than Haslam, Byrne, Brookes easily, Dixon, anyone else in BSB you care to mention. Haslam has blown all away after shakey stept our this year. Let’s see how he goes against Davies and go next year.
#Most GP riders when their careers has been completed fully retire from competition, but statistics tells us that when dropping down a racing class/format they do not win the silverware with the exception of Max Biaggi and carlos Checa in modern times.
Because they are at the end of their career. It’s what makes Rossi’s performance so sparkling. And I think much of that is lack of kids and distractions that get in the way of racing. Redding isn’t either of those things.
If the V4 is competitive Redding will take a podium at Donington in the opening round of the season and I think he will start on the front row. He has age on his side and will be hungry for success , look what Tarren Macenzie did in moto 2 and he was running away with the super sport championship when he went to moto 2, Redding would have won moto 2 if he had not been injured and he had a weight disadvantage at the time, Redding is a class rider .
You are spot on with all of that. Not least about about Redding's age. It's easy to forget he's only 25. Most of the ex Moto gp riders who have gone to BSB or WSBK have been in their thirties and at the end of their career.
Exactly. Stapleford ran away with British level s/sport, and can barely make top 10 in worlds. Redding’s only issue will be facilities IMHO. Dixon and some others are happy to take maximum risk; will redding make those hard passes at Cadwell and Oulton when the run off is marginal compared to Assen and other tracks he’s used to? Just as interesting is how Dixon will go. He is hard charging and young. Will he make even the top 20 of M2?!
Totally agree bradders, he will do well at Donington, Assen and Silverstone and maybe Brands if he can accumulate enough points at those rounds and pick up top ten points at the tight tracks he may well be in contention for the title, I think his biggest problem will be the V4, best of luck to him tho.
Here's a thought, how about ditching moto 2 and running world super bikes alongside moto gp, it would make good watching and let's be honest wsbk is going nowhere at the moment, come on dorna you know it makes sense .
Be even worse now they have made the suicidal decision to dump 1000 superstock, blaming manufacturers lack of interest fpmsl yeah, coz having bikes on track that are identical (as good as) to those in the showroom is bad for business #dornafuckup
What about Baylis at 50 after a massive break from all racing, regularly battling for the win in the Aussie championship. If you have the desire you have the speed, at almost any age.
While I wholeheartedly agree (he is getting faster as the year goes on, great to watch on Eurosport!) he wasn’t a MGP rider (other than occasional go at it). Like Rae, given the opportunity at the right time., I think Baylis would have been one of the very few who could have been world champion at production and world champion at GP.
No, but he is winning silverware, and at his age with the break he had he is getting amazing results. Mainly because the desire is there. That was my only point.... often people dropping down are at the end of their career and the desire has dropped and self preservation kicked in. With someone like Redding he should still have that desire, so with youth and recent high level racing on his side, there is no reason why he shouldn’t win if he wants to.
