1260 1260s Arriving Next Week

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Oly, Oct 26, 2018.

  1. jist purchased a 2018 sept 1260s
Done 700 miles ex demo. Having the touring kit added so have to
    Wait 10 days for this.
Was wondering what mods are essential.
    I am
Planning on fitting rad and oil cooler guards ,
Particularly interested in top box options plus sat nav mounts

  2. Congratulations, you will love it! I would recommend the Evotech rad guards, they also do a nice engine guard which protects the front cylinder, and it's really good quality stuff. I have the Ducati Sat Nav mount but the Jamie Claire one looks good and is probably easier to get. The throttle spacer kit is a great mod and makes the bike a lot easier to ride smoothly. Hopefully you are happy with the screen, if not there are a thousand and one opinions of what after market screen set up is best!! Enjoy your bike:upyeah:

  3. Thanks, I’ll definately look
Up the evotech engine guard, looks
    Like they do a deal
    For all three.

Yes. I forgot to mention that. The engine guard tidies up the front a treat.

  5. My most appreciated purchase for my DVT was the DP footstand extender thing. Never needed a side stand puck again!! I have a SW Motech sat nav mount. Down side is, it sits under the dash (still see the dash fine though), which I don’t have a problem with, but cosmetically I prefer it as it’s easy to remove when not in use.

  6. Best mods for me:

  7. Termi & upmap fob!

  8. Great bike . you will enjoy that.
    Termi is a must

  9. Evotech Pack of Rad and Oil and Engine
    Evotech Frame Crash Bungs
    Evotech Bar End Weights (Enduro)
Cut down the screen (after you have tried standard)
Navihalter or similar Sat Nav Mount
    Screen Protector for dash.
    I fitted Enduro footpegs
I fitted Touratech / Ducati - Handlebar bag from Enduro - for wallet / phone / keys.

    PETROL....

  10. Enjoy your new MT'S 1260. Echo what Groundhog says. I have the same mods on mine. Bought the Evotech rad guard and engine guard, didn't notice the set including the oil cooler guard at the time and feel that it's somewhat more out of the line of fire, of the front wheel at least, anyway. I also have the Evotech crash bungs, all quality products.

Like yours mine was a standard S model, albeit a new one from stock. The supplying dealer fitted the touring pack (although they fitted a centre stand from the Enduro in error, still waiting for resolution on that, becoming an issue but not yet going to blow up on here about that just yet). Also opted for the factory top case and rack which I'm really pleased with. Huge capacity (two helmets, just), yet retain a degree of slenderness through traffic that the side cases tend to do away with. Also a big plus for my girlfriend in terms of comfort and security.

To my regret Jamie's sat nav mount was released/announced just after I managed to source the Ducati one from Germany. I believe these were made by the guy who runs Navhalter who was involved in a serious RTA, due to this the company is currently not producing any stock so they're increasingly difficult to come by. Also the Ducati version only suits the Zumo 390/395, you need an adapter plate from Desmo Dave of this parish to make the likes of my Zumo 590 fit. This cost me North of £100 all in including P&P. Jamie's looks really good and the top plate appears to accommodate all common GPS cradles. One thing about any mount that fits to the screen adjuster is that it will shake around a bit once underway on anything but smooth roads. As I have a Givi tanklock tank-bag the lower mount just doesn't work.

I have Jamie's spacers fitted that angle and space the screen to help reduce the buffeting. Tried Puig Touring and the expensive Touratech screens without success. I'm back to the std screen with the spacers which, for me at least, seems to be the best compromise thus far. I do also have a Puig Sport screen that I've yet to try.

EFUT: Also have Evotech Enduro bar ends and Speedo Angels screen protector.

  11. I'm sure you will enjoy the 1260S as much as I do - 12500 fault-free miles & counting. To the mods listed above you might want to think about:

    Scottoiler
DP Water Pump cover - the plastic OEM one has a piece of foam behind it that retains water & corrodes the pump housing
    Stebel Nautilus air horn

  12. yeah a sound-bomb airhorn is also a must have mod!

  13. Are any modifications “essential”? I doubt it.

  15. I’m getting my 1260 next week too :) I’ve not heard about this throttle spacer kit ? Where do you get them and how does that work ?

  16. Mine is dependent on the touring kit arriving which they say will be 10 days.
The sat nav mounting thing sounds very complicated, above the screen it vibrates, below it and it fouls the tank
    Bag

  17. The Ducati mount works fine, not too much vibration but you have to order a separate mount if you have a Tomtom. The Jamie Claire one is a universal fit.

  18. i have a tomtom 550, so who is jamie claire? is this a uk purchase?

  19. knowing my luck it will be snowing when i get it, and ive got a 250 mile round trip to take my bmw s1000r down and collect the mts
