  1.

    ah yeah George Lawrence..

  2. next time you are at your bike have a count just how many welds are on it......what if any of them let go...

  3. What's behind the Lorenzo ownership? When? How did you obtain this? Very interesting history.

  4. An inch of weld supports a ton, something like that was explained to me years ago, basically the forces generated by cornering and braking on a motorbike on a road by a relatively normal rider or even a very quick rider are surely unlikely to test a good repair, I would add that it would probably take some extreme event to break what is already there, only opinion.

  5. True but they are welds where they are supposed to be, not repairs in fairly critical places.

  6. 500 sobs it is then...

  7. So, you have answered your own question. The fact that it has cracked would seem to suggest that it has been subject to some fairly extreme stress already. As the previous owner was a former Moto2 and MotoGP world champion, it is unlikely that my one modest track outing in september of last year or this evening’s visit to the girlfriend would have caused this stress.
The bike was supplied to me, direct from Ducati as an ex. Lorenzo 999R with full papers and provenance, spares package etc on the recommendation of a dealer from whom I had previously bought all my other Ducatis and with whom until last month I had a V4 Speciale on order. It is currently on temporary registration plates (WW prefix here in France) as having never been registered for road use. As I paid a very reasonable 8450€ in september of last year I think I can run to the expense of a new upper triple clamp but thanks for the suggestion nonetheless!

  8. It’s got provenance of a world MGP champion being the only owner, spares, the whole chibang and half the price of any other around.

You do know that I bought a 1098R this year for 9500€ don’t you?
I guess some guys really do have all the luck huh!

  10. Man you are the exception to the ‘if it sounds too good to be true, it is’ rule ;)

  11. The same applies to the birds I’ve had!
TBF though it’s not always been plain sailing and the downs have more than equalled the ups. It’s more a case of right place right time with the bikes. The 1098R was a swap for a 1098SFS plus 1000€, I just happened to have bought one at 8,5k and the guy with the 1098R wanted out as he’d just taken a Panigale R so we did a deal!

  12. Fair play to ye joe, looks like a really good deal you got, I am very envious, and yes could well have had extreme use? But I do wonder when and why Lorenzo would get that bike seems an odd choice for such a rider, a Spanish rider too, I'm baffled as to why he would ride that bike when he would have the choice of any bike, but at the same time why not? It is intriguing though, only thing I would personally worry about buying a second hand item is what has it been through? Maybe Lorenzo used it then replaced it due to a crack so put it on the bay and the buyer welded it and resold at a profit :bucktooth: Remember this is the internet and light hearted humour is the norm especially off me anyroad....life too short :upyeah:
