Varadkar has said within the last hour, that if a back stop is entered into, then it cannot be temporary issue and it will not be allowed to be decided by one side as to when it stops.
Listened to Radio 5 Live phone-in earlier. Guy comes on and says, 'look, we voted to leave and the politicians should just get on with it and leave'. His gripe had been the working time directive thinking that he could not do more hours than Europe allowed. He was wrong and didn't know that you can voluntarily be unbound by this directive. Given that it is fair (for me) to assume that he was not the only person who voted with a tenuous grasp of the facts, plus much of the leave campaign was based on untrue facts (like how the NHS would get this multi million pound benefit) is it right that given that May's deal will almost certainly fail, to have another referendum? Or do we have an election making it mandatory for candidates to state their leave/stay option? Or do we get worried about our Bisto supplies and forget the whole thing? Genuinely confused....
I wouldn't worry about a few leavers who didn't know what they were voting for. There were 16m remainders who have absolute no idea what they voted for.
The trouble with neverendums is that it kills the democratic vote. I've asked this question before to remainers and didn't get a single reply Say tomorrow there is a general election and Corbyn wins, before he takes office, there is a demand for another election as the side that lost do not like the result. What then? Brexiteers had to wait over 40 years for a second vote when they lost, but remainers have to only wait 2 years and before leave is even enacted according to them. now to the question, If we had another vote and remain won, how long do YOU think, brexiteers should have to wait before bringing it up again and having another vote?
The UK was never going to get a better deal than it already had. As is usual for those who cannot think for themselves, no one will realise just how much they have lost til its gone.
We were always going to get a different future, one where we have more of a U.K. interest whilst always being on an open worldwide market. Honestly the way some go on about the eu, you would think the other 168 countries in the world do not exist and oh my, how do they ever manage?
Aye, but no one know what deal yet. It appears the UK and EU have agreed a form of words and fair play to May for getting a collective decision from the Cabinet but as the saying goes 'the devil's in the detail'.
you mentioned the "collective decision" I doubt it's a slip of the tongue that she did not say, the unanimous decision of the cabinet. It would infer, I might be wrong, that it was not a unanimous decision and I wonder if that is the case, who will now step down or announce they did not agree.
I've a sense of foreboding I've not felt since the day of the Scottish Indy Ref. No, but seriously, I do have a bad feeling about this.
Barnier has just announced that if there is still no Northern Ireland agreement by July 2020, then the backstop will come into play at the end of the agreed transition of December 2020 and Northern Ireland will effectively still be tied to the eu in the single market. I can imagine at least 10 mp's about to go boom.
Ffs there is no Republic of Ireland, they are in the EU, I lost count how many tines they voted until the EU got the vote they wanted. I wonder if they would vote leave. You can be sure they will be paying more to be in the EU club. GFA threats if returning to terrorism, typical fucking attitude, disgusting tbh. The Tories are soft as shite, doubt there is one backbone between them.
