To start it off, tonight I had a Laphroaig ‘Four Oaks’. Basically your regular 10 year old Laphroaig but with an extra 2 years maturation in 4 different oak casks then blended together. As with all Islay malts it’s a very peaty number, my youngest daughter tells me it smells of kitchen cleaner! But I love them, Islay malts that is. The peatier the better for me. However, I prefer the regular Laphroaig to this one which is specially produced for the World’s duty free shops. What are you drinking? ps. Whisky and Bourbon are also acceptable.
Irish wins out for me, Jameson's, blackbush, powers gold , have yet to try Green Spot guess I find the name a little frightening!

Last time at the brothers he offered me a glass of Hakushu 25 year old Japanese single malt. Very smooth and quite nice but I still can't get on with whiskeys. Coming from Essex, we only drink Stella or Jack Daniels I did chuckle however given the motorbike bias, he also had a Japanese whiskey called

It's the one drink I just haven't come around to. I like beers of all kinds, cider, wine, fun, vodka, rum... Any suggestions for a good beginner whiskey? The last one I tried was a makers mark on the rocks and it still tasted like bitterness and fire to me.
I would start with anything but Scottish Whisky. You don't want your early experiences to put you off for life. Leave the rotgut to professionals.
I’d go for a nice smooth Irish whiskey, there’s plenty out there, Powers Gold was my starter on Irish whiskey. It’s a whole load smoother more peaty and less surgical spirit than Scottish. not too expensive either. Once you’ve got the taste for it the whole world of whiskey opens up before your very eyes. Either that or you’ll sell your bike, stop paying your mortgage, separate from your girlfriend grow a beard and stop washing. The choice is yours my friend!
Connemara peated single malt if its for savouring. This beats the peaty highland malts at their own game, in my opinion. Bushmills if its just for drinking.
Im drinking whisky. Whiskey is that irish or american stuff. Macallan 12yr old or an 18yr Balvenie currently.
Glenlivet 12 and 18 year old, just finished some 12 year old Balvenie. Tried half a dozen heavily peated whiskies at the weekend, hmmmm.
