What Whiskey Are You Drinking?

  1. Where's that from?

  2. OMG.....:scream::scream: There's an interloper on the Whiskey/Whisky thread. Get out damn spot.;)

  3. The cigar and whisky boxes are all empty and have been consumed. I currently have ~20 single malts in various states of consumption but have just run out of cigars :(

  4. Where do you get your cigars from usually?

  5. :( can't beat a good cigar and single malt. I don't even smoke but I'll puff away on a cigar once or twice a year, in the right company and with the right accompaniments.:upyeah:

  6. I used to get Cubans from Geneva but the postage rules have got too complicated for them now (their words) so I get them from Gibraltar and stock up once or twice a year. Also from Spain sometimes. Non-cubans I get from friends/colleagues in the USA when they visit.

  9. Lagavulin 16 is a great Peaty beginner whiskey.
Ardbeg 10 is nice, Ardbeg Uigeadil even better.
Caol ILA is exceptional value for money & punches well above its weight.

Apart from the many Scottish singles, I really really love Yamazaki, the reserve single is nice, the 12 is something else.
Obviously less peaty but simply the smoothest whiskey I’ve had.

Anybody tried a peaty single with quality dark chocolate? Tip by a local on my last Scottish tour.
    I’m converted.

  10. Currently Honey JD on the rocks. Sorry.

I struggle with Scottish, even though am Scottish (blame my wee late Da for sticking my dummy in his Shyte and MacKays to make me sleep) and am of Islay ancestry, as my great gran only moved to the mainland in the 1920s and we are from Port Charlotte originally.

  11. You do realise that’s not real whiskey in there? It’s made from the whey by product of making cheese by Carberry in West Cork and is a distilled whey (milk) product. They’re clever buggers there at the ‘creamery’ and conjour up all sorts of products and brand names.

If you want one with real whiskey and real cream in search out Coole Swan. :upyeah:

  12. You’re one up on me. Ireland beat the All Blacks in Rugbyvtjis evening so to celebrate I cracked ope the 12 yr old Balvenie. My so-called friends downed the lot:eek:. Mind you I did assist them and ....... I can always buy another bottle, we may not always be able to beat the All Blacks. :upyeah:

  13. Agree but I wouldn’t call it a beginner whisky.
Agree on the former, not familiar with the later.
Don’t know Carol ILA at all, what’s the story please?

  14. Right, we have to get you going. Bear in mind there’s an ancestry there: Whyte & MacKay on the dummy’s d we shouldn’t waste it.
Honey JD is nice. The sugar hits the pleasure areas in the brain and makes you like it. It’s an old food manufacturers trick to hit the ‘happy spot’.

You’re from Islay so we’ll get you back there. Move on from Honey JD on the rocks to an Irish, say Jameson’s on the rocks, then try Connemara on the rocks, another Irish but a bit peaty. Then try Ardbeg, a ‘not so peaty’ Islay, then 10 year old Laphroaig then 16 year old Lagavullin.

Having said that there are probably a few intermediate steps others might suggest. :upyeah:

  15. My tips for single malt noobs...

Get a small (5cl) bottle of whisky from each of the regions (Islay, Highland, Speyside - Sainsbury's sometimes do gift packs at Xmas) and, this is the important bit, try them all, one small sip at a time, one after the other AND have a swig of water between each sip.

You should soon be able to recognise each type by the taste. When you find one you prefer, then you know which area to specialise in.

  16. Agree. Picked this up Sainsbury’s last time I was back in the UK. £18.99 IIRC, and extremely good value. Made for them by Lord knows who in Speyside but smooth as a woman who’s just had a wax :p

  19. Point if order:
Honey JD is an evil, disgusting concoction and people saying they like it are lying to you.

I don't like it, so you know I am telling you the truth about this.
