Foreign Trackdays - packing bike and kit into crate for transport on a lorry?

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by Dave, Feb 21, 2013.

  1. I'm off on a trip with No Limits and I am going to have to pack my bike and kit into a crate for transport on the carrier's lorry.

Looks like I'm going to have to do it on my own when no-one else will be there to get help and advice from.

Have you done this? Got any tips?

  2. when will you be packing? if its sat morn there will be help around

  3. Small tool box although some take a tool chest, long as it fits snugly by rear wheel, take some of your own straps, towels or old curtains something to protect paintwork, pack as much clothing in your kit bag as you can so flights just hand luggage, small box of spares and allow time to pack, unpack, repack then pack again on crate if everything doesnt fit lol

  4. Therein lies the problem. I am working on the Saturday so need to do it on the Friday

  5. Thanks for that. Useful tips. I'm going with a group being organised by Papa Louigi so should be able to share tools, maybe paddock stands too - looks like you have both front and rear ones there

  6. If your going from swindon , the crates are a bit bigger than the one bradders has shown above. I and few other ducati riders will be packing ours on saturday. Take a bike cover/sheet to throw over the bike, and if you get a single bike crate you can pack as much as you can - keeping within the extents of the crate. A roll of stretch wrap comes in handy for keeping evingthing in position. Wrap the crate up like a box, go around and around to seal all the holes where stuff can fall off. Dont foget to pack a camp chair and table if you got them. see you there a week on Sunday. Mike Yellow #71 748R, along with 2 x 999 1 x 749 1 x 848

  7. Mike has done a few...you should see how they pack em

Yes both stands plus I had a spare set of tyres going out. I found it really handy to have someone with me, a mate came, just as a 2nd pair of eyes to help get everything on. Look away when they load and unload them ;-)

  8. I am going from Swindon, but my trip isn't till next month (Portimao).

Good idea on the stretch wrap. Dont suppose you can recommend where to buy it can you?

  9. have shipped bikes 2 and from nz and to and from the us

get a crate for a similar model from your local dealer and use that to ship things in

  10. For the trackday transport it's dedicated crates from the transport company Pop, so you cant use any other than they have.

Ask at a local transport company for a roll end of stretch wrap, thre may even be some at the transport place in swindon.

  11. Dave I dont know your location but if anywhere near Ashby Leicestershire I have a roll of stretch wrap at my warehouse if you want it. Will also be travelling down the M40 next tuesday going to London if you wanted to meet on route.

  12. Thanks for the offer but I'm down in the SW - Taunton, M5 J25

  13. That's what I thought. I won't be there when they load and unload them - not sure if that's a good thing!

  14. Its a good thing.....I stood and watched while they took mine off, felt as and had to walk away, especially after seeing the ZX10 they dropped off the top...

  15. OMG!
