999 999 Common Charging Issue?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Xfin999, Nov 23, 2018.

  1. I rang up and booked my 999 in today to Hammer and Tongs in Warrington as I want get TPS, CO & throttle body balance to solve the stalling at traffic lights issue, and the guy on the phone told me "well those 999s have a tendency to have charging issues so we'll probably look at that".

I've never come across anything on these having charging issues before. Is it a common fault? Has anyone else had it and what were the symptoms?

Havent used this garage before so i'm always dubious about new garages tellin me things.

  2. Had mine since 2004. No charging issues. Still on original rectifier. The 749/999 have an issue with the Cables from the battery to the starter motor. The solution is to fit one of @Exige kits or to build your own cables. That is a starting not charging issue.

  5. The original regulator is kind of a weak spot since it's located in a warm spot and isn't a MOSFET.

  6. This was my original thought too. I'll be very explicit about what they will and won't be doing when I drop it off then.

  7. Yea that was my first upgrade when I bought it. Made a world of difference.

  9. The injector/coil/pump relay is the thing most likely to give you problems. Replace as a yearly service item.

  11. Just searched it and saw some advice you gave someone else to relocate it to an easier location so I think i'll do that when I give the bike a service at the end of the winter. Nice one thanks.

  14. Corrected

  15. Over night my 999 started displaying 15v on the dash. Perfect voltage at the battery and I installed a MOSFET reg/rec just to be sure and still the same. I just rode on regardless.
