1199 Your Thoughts On The 1199 Please

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Italianstallion, Nov 24, 2018.

  1. as title says
I have a chance of a 2014 non abs 1199 panigale for chump change.
What’s the things to look out for on these machines ie common problems and what not.
Just the sort of things that go wrong a lot. Not sure if I want it but the bloke owes me a few quid and I would give home a small amount back if he hands it over.
I’m gonna struggle to get money out of him I reckon

  4. 1199 is a good bike in experienced hands, but needs a year to get used to it properly. if youre used to big lumpy twins, youre half way there.
many cant get on with the 1199 and sell shortly after buying.
i love them and would be happy to take a cheap one off your hands.

  5. I’ve one too, they’re a great bike no more likely to give you any problems than any other second hand bike. If it’s cheap grab it

  7. If he is fickle with his friends and money he owes I would be asking

has he spent any money on maintaining it
is it his to sell, i.e. no hp or bank loans type of thing so a hpi might be worth the spend.
then use the obvious checks you'd do with any bike to eliminate the obvious

  8. No hpi as I’ve checked but I know he didn’t look after it.
Seems alright though to look at. I’ve just been over to have look and a spin so told him I will let him know tonight.
Quite liked the riding position if I’m
Honest and the fact that I went over on my mv which is not that comfortable Andy felt comfy on the 1199 was a bonus.
Gonna go to the pub now then make my mind up. Best decisions are always made drunk

  11. After a fair few peronis, brandy and some port I’ve decided I’m having it so 1199 ownership will be upon me and
I will have a Ducati again in the stable

  15. Termi's should come with an upmap key containing 2 x maps...

1 Map for end cans and a 'Racing's Map for full system.

    HTH.

  16. too late for me to add but depending how well you know him I would be thinking more than usually, what he reckons it's worth/what it's really worth. I really hope it's a good one :upyeah:

  17. just my 2 pence worth, as im currently elbow deep in a 1199 rebuild..
if you can get it cheap its a no-brainer, but the 1199 did have issues, just look at the number of engines for sale on Ebay etc.
on the early models 2012-2013 they had a slightly higher rev limiter and this was thought to be an influencing factor in the Con Rod snapping issue, also there have been a few bikes that have no issues with rods, but valve to piston collision. so if its cheep enough and you have the spare cash, think about a engine refresh and drop in a set of Carrillo Rods ( about (650 Euros ) as insurance, and it will also eliminate and doubts about lack of care and attention to servicing etc.
rather than worry about the Up stick, go for a Rapid bike module and the map will auto trim, made a big difference to my 1299 throttle reaction.

  19. That’s very helpful thank you mate

  20. My experience of superquadro twins is that they are pretty solid, I would however check for evidence of the water pump leaking from the overflow pipe between the cylinders (when on the side stand it runs down the engine case around the stator). I had a water pump go on my 899 and my mate had 2 go on his 959 and the dealer told me that unfortunately it's one of the more 'well known' issues.

Otherwise I guess try and get the reg and get a friendly dealer to see if recalls have been done, there were a few big ones from memory.

Oh, and Termi's, as others have said they remove the cats so yes it needs re-mapping as it also gets rid of the exhaust valve. The 1199 uses a 3 bolt connection at the rear of the cans, it WILL be corroded to death especially if the bikes not been looked after so be careful if you need to change the pipes.
