There is a problem with all this productivity, equipment, technology. It does not find jobs for the masses. It just adds to profit margins. Without having some form of socio-economic balance, we are heading for a form of 'matrix' like existence. Shorter working weeks with the same pay, to spread the load? Real tax breaks for low earners? Real taxation for high earners and corporations? Sounds a bit socialist, but times they are a changing..
I agree the Irobot scenario is coming. I don't find it a coincidence that sperm rates are dropping amongst western civilised democracy males either, but that discussion is for another thread
Contractors working through their own limited companies can maximise their post-tax earnings by paying themselves a low salary and the balance in dividends from their company profits. Despite dividend tax hikes implemented in April 2016, extracting cash from a company via a dividend payment still offers a more tax-efficient alternative to paying oneself a salary. This is in part down to the fact that dividends aren’t subject to National Insurance Contributions (NICs). Contractors whose spouses are shareholders in their limited companies can also make full use of their spouse’s tax allowance. They can do this by splitting the basic salary and also splitting the dividend income of their limited companies to further reduce their combined tax liabilities and maximise net income. It is from here, read to your heart's content: https://www.contractorcalculator.co.uk/salary_versus_dividends_limited_companies_advice.aspx
Agreed. Done it. If you can get ahead on savings (I was lucky I know). Then save a shit load of paperwork PAYe etc. by just paying a few dividends over the year, dont take a basic. Keep it simple, my accountant loved doing my accounts..
Read up on HMRC website and you will find that they are slowly making this less and less of a tax break. The dividend allowance is reduced to £2000 this year and medium and large businesses will be obliged to introduce off-payroll working legislation next year which means that they may have to deduct tax and ni as if you were an employee.
It's funny that regular occasions when duke has gone on his grrr go after the 5% at the top and make them pay more tax, I and a few others have raised, if they are doing nothing illegal and using government guidelines, which one do you think deprives the treasury of the most revenue The 5% of super rich pushing the allowed rules or the huge amount of self employed pushing the allowed rules? In truth none of them are as they are both using and pushing at the boundaries of the rules so it isn't a lost income at all. If the rules are too lax, change the rules. Predicting one reply , the tories are doing more to tighten these situations more than certainly the last labour government.
You would be surprised. Very surprised. Google ‘off payroll working for private sector ’. It’s all changing to make us all pay more tax and national insurance.
What you quote is irrelevant - you would know that if you had run a limited company for the last 25 years. I was Managing Director and I was paid a minimal salary (under the allowance), therefore I was PAYE and consequently not off payroll. Read the article from the link I posted - you might actually understand things better.
May and Corbin agree to a debate but on different channels Wonder if all the ‘leaders’ are going to be invited and what are they going to discuss? Does anyone think Corbin will actually have an opinion ?
Switzerland - Sign of our possible problems ahead? I can't see the Swiss people backing down as they are very independently minded nationalists: The EU has now increased the pressure by resorting to blackmail: Brussels is making its recognition of Switzerland's SIX Swiss Exchange, the fourth-largest stock market in Europe, contingent on Swiss acceptance of the framework agreement. The measure was opposed by a coalition of Swiss business groups, which convincingly argued that it was a question of economics and access to international markets for the export-dependent country. "Ultimately, it is about maintaining prosperity in Switzerland and keeping the companies and jobs here," said Monika Rühl, director of the business group Economiesuisse. "The SVP rejects a one-sided submission to EU institutions, aimed at establishing an institutional connection of Switzerland to the EU apparatus, with a dynamic EU legal takeover and, ultimately, the subordination of Switzerland to the EU Court of Justice. A dynamic adoption of EU law would be another massive erosion of our direct democracy." — Swiss People's Party. In an effort to curb the increasing amount of crime associated with immigration, Swiss voters approved a referendum to deport foreigners who commit serious crimes in Switzerland. The EU warned that deporting EU citizens for any reason would be a violation of Switzerland's treaty obligations regarding the free movement of persons. The Swiss parliament, seeking to avoid economic reprisals, eventually passed a watered-down law aimed at reconciling the will of Swiss voters with Switzerland's obligations under EU law.
Not quite. BTW when they deduct but dont want to pay holiday and sick pay, no benefits...and HMRC are having to step outside of their own rules and outside of IR35 agreements because they cant get any workers...funny that...Its a farce. All it means is people will go PAYE. So a bit more tax on a far lower salary. And no 19% corp tax. And no 20% VAT. SO HMRC will be worse off.
The point is so grossly missed. For those who are hard of thinking. Including EVERY politician (almost..) 1. The vote was LEAVE EU or STAY IN EU - simple 2. There was no qualification of part in-part out 3. There was no 'on good terms' 'bad terms' ANY terms 4. the LEAVE campaign centred on immigration controls, regulatory controls in UK, no patients to EU 5. REMAIN campaign centred on 'no money' 'economy failure' 'no food' 'crash crash crash' 6. Refer to point one. NOTHING to do with economy. NOTHING to do with cash. So why keep banging on about it?!
I am reading couple of posts and not sure why we ended here? So a brieff summary: The Bank of England is clueless, deliberately misleading us or on EU payroll. Our Gov. members are serving the EU interests. Are you guys serious this is high treason by any means. (solution???, hope not Jeremy Corbin&Co.) We would negotiate better deals than the EU with USA, China, India and so on. (as the last 20 months proved, we are very good at this) EU is a tough negotiator and not giving us anything for free. (Why would they do so? they are representing the remaining 27 members not us) At this moment in time I am not sure who I would trust more to negotiate a deal on my behalf....would it be the Tory negotiating team (hold on, poor David D. and Dominic R. wher just some sort of puppets, whilst TM was pulling the strings in the background) or the EU negotiators. As a remainer I have to agree with the leavers on this matter..the negotiated deal is a joke. The only way ahead is implementing a WTO trading system ASAP. Anyone has by any chance Michel Barnier's mobile number?
In a nutshell, we are going to get screwed regardless as the whole thing has been ill thought out with no planning. The political elite will wriggle away until they get some kind of deal that keeps them at the trough. This, the Conservative party already has done to an extent with its DUP support to stay in power. There is no real interest in delivering a real Brexit. WTO....ASAP. If only. These things take time and if we crash out (??), we are more desperate for deals elsewhere to keep the economy moving. Even on the basis that Brexit is delivered, hard Brexit, the arrangements already in place would have to continue for some time (so how can we really 'crash out..') whilst new arrangements are put in place. There are no real alternatives in the short term with borders, flights etc etc. The idea that hard Brexit can be delivered and start in a few hours/days/weeks, months...hmmm. So we would agree to carry on whilst things got sorted. Meanwhile we are weakened in our bargaining power and any new deals will cost some sort of concession or have some sort of reciprocal arrangement. This could well be movement of people between trading countries. Got to laugh eh? In the meantime they might come up with more great solutions that keep people happy, like new passports with the front cover red and the back blue, then both sides of the fence can feel as though they have scored some points. After all the passport colour was a real biggy, I admit to being really pleased about that and all of my Brexiteer mates were over the moon...
