959 Support Front Of Bike To Remove Bottom Yoke?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Giff, Dec 2, 2018.

  1. Hi,

I'm looking for some ideas of how to safely support the front of the bike while I remove the bottom yoke.

I have front and rear stands so can initially lift the bike in to the air.

I plan to then drop the front end on to something, I've typically used a 4x4 piece of wood on jack stands but can't see a good spot on the engine to support the weight.

Any suggestions / pics of how you've done it?

    Cheers.

  2. Buy or borrow one of the side stand things that lift the lot. Demon tweeks doing one for just over £100

Otherwise, a trellis stand type thing either side of the frame and put a bar thru. If you can find somewhere to line it thru on those frameless bikes.

  3. i have a Bike Tower ( bursig type) that mounts in the left hand engine/swingarm bracket.
without it removal of the lower fork clamp is a pain..

i just stripped out an engine, and due to the deep sump, its a pain to balance the motor during disassembly

  4. Attach some hooks or eyes to the ceiling beams, then hang the front of the bike from ratchet straps. That way, it can't fall over.

  5. Not sure if you can with the panigale, given the frame configuration, same with the trellis and bar method

  6. It is probably possible to thread a strap through just behind the steering head, and support the bike on the casting. Unless somebody says it isn't ...

  7. You’d think so, but never looked and without the bottom yoke I wonder if thee would be a risk of a strap slipping out forwards

  8. This is where I balanced mine when pulling the frame off

  14. If you’re feeling rich, have a look at the ABBA skylift. If you do a lot of work on the bike, it’s worth it IMO.
