  1. My old mum turns 70 next week, and she's not keen on the idea. I haven't got a clue what to buy her. Give us a hand will you..? I've got about £100 to spend...

  3. I spent about that on Dior perfume when my mum turned 80

  4. I was thinking of clothes, but that's what I seem to buy her every year. Oh, and my sister's a florist, so flowers, pot pourri and most small decorative stuff is out, cos she's got it all. Don't suppose she'd be too keen on kitchenware either...

  11. Tickets for a show? I dare say you'd earn a lot of brownie points if you treated her to tickets to something that you wouldn't normally go to, and endured it with her.

  12. She's a woman. Get her diamonds or a Radley handbag. Anything else is just mucking about.

  17. Not a very glamorous prezzie though, is it?

I've been scouring the internets, and it's looking like jewellery or a decent watch. I can't think of anything else.

  18. That's her birthday too. But once you add hotels etc it's beyond my means.

  19. Oh I think if we can buy some slapper a £500k house for herself and her 11 kids, the British consul in Rome can put up an OAP for a few days and then repatriate her to her loving son who is concerned that his mum has disappeared?
