What do I buy my mum..?

  1. Hows about a picture of her favorite son on his favorite bike? Get a proper frame made for it. Im sure she would love it!!

  2. You risk buying her an unwanted object, but if she's flush with dosh, she won't mind.

  3. Get her more carbon for your bike

  4. I'd be risking a smack in the chops if I just handed her cash.

  5. Buy her a youngish tree.

Bound to find one to fit your budget. Then she can watch it grow year after year and think of dutiful son.
If it's a fruit tree, she can even have something to eat from it after a couple of years.

  6. The Mousetrap - old ladies love it.

  7.
  8. premium bonds - she can keep 'em and eventually you'll inherit 'em (not for a long time obviously)

  9. I had a Hawk flying experience day at the Hawk Conservancy near Andover on the A303. You could both go and have a truly humbling and memorable experience followed by lunch. She will appreciate a day with her little boy.

a day out or something the like above, think anything we really want we buy for ourselves anyway, my mum would rather spend the time with me

  11. Take her out shopping - London, bath, somewhere with culture and nice shops. She can choose what she-d like and gets to spend time with you.
Nice lunch as part of the day

  12. All good ideas. I might hedge my bets, buy her a small gift, then take her somewhere.

  13. To meet a gigalo?

  14. The Ritz is not quite as great as you'd imagine, you can get a room for £400 a night if you ask and dinner is better next door at the Wolseley (IMHO), you don't need a tie and can wear jeans at the Wolseley too. The Ritz afternoon tea is however worth it or Langhams or the Savoy. There was a recent offer of lunch at the Dorchester for £30 which is mega value, Lastminute.com I think.
She'd love any of these as they are very memorable.

  15. You ain't kidding. I've worked on the air conditioning there and believe me, behind the scenes it's a craphole.

  16. But the guests don't see that and it is a very old building. Last time I stayed it was value for money I felt, but the Dorchester is better to stay in.

  17. I think if you're an outsider, especially a foreigner, then something like tea at the Ritz would be thoroughly enjoyable and different enough to be entertaining. But my mum's a Londoner and I really don't think she'd find it all that appealing. I doubt very much she'd see the attraction in paying a fortune for a cuppa.
