    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  2. I'm sure all those whose friends profiles allowed CA to grab their data are of the same thought when they realise they are being bombarded by Trump or whatever propaganda

  4. Anyone who doesn't know that FB and others are breaking the rules they say they wont are idiots.. Yep, get it.

So are this that dare to leave their window open on a hot night and get burgled. And those who own a motorcycle and ride it in to London and have it nicked.

    Yep. Their fault

  5. Did you get loads of Trump stuff on your profile then? I didn't.

  6. Try all that you want, you will never get me to give up my FB account.
You are beginning to sound like a Jobless Witness.

The gist of what you are saying could be applied to use of the internet simpliciter Data harvesting is not limited to FB, our caches, histories, cloud storage, online banking can be vulnerable to hacking etc.At the end of the day the arguments put up against FB on this thread amount to how much you are prepared to engage on the internet.

Just like guarding your house, there is no absolute guarantee of safety. Each needs to take steps to protect themselves as much as reasonably possible, whilst at the same time acknowledging there is an inherent risk involved.

I am not going to absent myself from the benfits conferred by social media as in my judgment those benefits outweigh the risks. I advise anyone who asks me to make their own judgment on that score.

Many say motorcycling is stupid and inflicts damage not only on the rider but those he leaqves behind etc etc. Again, I have to make that judgment as do other riders.

  8. No one is trying to. However, I am trying to stop others thinking the way you do.

You get its not all about you, right? Its about doing the right things to enjoy stuff. And holding to account those like FB who not only break your trust, but also the rules & regulations and laws.

    mic out

  9. Exactly right. This isnt just FB, bit the post started about FB.

Siri - always listening. Google - always listening. FB - always watching what you surf.

Ever wondered why, 10 minutes after a conversation, an ad sometimes pops up on your FB feed even though you haven't searched anything? Or likewise if you search independently, you then get ads in FB

I've dropped the mic already, and I can see you understand exactly what I'm saying and agree, so off my box.

  11. I agree that this is what Bob is saying. See below.

By following Bob's sensible advice here, you won't directly give away your home address, home phone number, mobile number, date of birth, mother's maiden name, medical conditions, religious and political views, or indeed many of the snippets of information that you either care, or don't care, about sharing with the big tech firms, Amazon, Netflix et al.

You are though sharing *everything* you type into FB with the aforementioned firms. You are sharing who your friends are, and crucially, what they think and say about you, what they post about you, any of your children's photos that they may have taken, etc etc. In other words, this is NOT just about you, Bob. I know you struggle with that concept based upon your Brexit comments elsewhere but trust me, this isn't just about you.

I seriously urge you to perform a data dump of the information FB has on you - you can find this somewhere in the "privacy settings" (LOL, oxymoron, that). Please post the data dump here, in this thread. Should only be about 100MB-plus, a lot more if you have lots of photos. I feel certain that your cautious nature means that you will have no problem with making it all public (after all, it already is!).

Look, you don't care about what you are sharing, or with whom, or what other FB users are sharing about you, that is obvious and no one should be judging you on that. However, denying that sensitive information is being shared, as discussed, is foolish and misleading. You are denying that the sharing of messages that are described by FB as "private" with commercial firms isn't cause for concern for all. That is something someone could judge you for (if they were judgmental).

Cheers, EC! My work here is never done, thanks for your invaluable help : o D

  12. face book is a tool, more of a multi tool tbh, it no doubt does everything you guys say it does. it can also be used to undermine the MSM and help to destabilize the govs and partys the MSM support.
the MSM and govs will be attempting to delegitimize it. deffo.

  13. I actually heard that Zuck and Soros have fallen out big style, which makes me take any negative news regarding FB with a pinch of salt.

That said, privacy concerns for the FB platform long pre-date any mutterings concerning a schism with Soros.

  14. i will not be reading yer links but i will wager it says somthing along the lines of, the success they have had at campaigning on social media. mostly because they have no choice.
aaaaand right on queue, BBC Radio Shortbread are having a pop at FaceBook this morning. therefore i think its fair to say, theres at least, an element of Political motovation behind the moves to discredit Facebook.

  15. So say I did want to start an account to access Facebook info, but wanted to limit what they know about me.

I like the idea of starting an account in the dogs name, or maybe even my favourite 10mm spanners name.

Can I just open a new Gmail account or similar and take a picture of the spanner?
    What else do they need?

It’s not easy to get around the IP address etc.

    Nasher.

  17. I read a long article about this very subject in an online news paper today. Indeed Netflix, Amazon and others have at some time been given access to FB data, but as I have pointed out that does not worry me. The article also mentioned that Apple had access to this data through iphones and ipads.
I am now wondering how many FB haters use an iphone. Very easy to bash FB but not mention that the overpriced thing that you use all the time is also harvesting your data.

  18. Just use the Tor Browser.

  19. Oh of course, yes.
Just in case other users on here don't understand that comment perhaps you could explain.

    Thanks

    Nasher.
