Tyre , And Lack Of Electrical Fire

  1. So had my first post last week about my 848 and loving life .

Riding position under 60mph its a bit harsh on the forearms but mine were small enough and needed a bit of exercise .

So i have been getting to know the bike and living in Ireland as one would imagine there is a lot of rain .

I have the Pirelli Corse on and at 6k rpm i get 1 out of 3 red lights come on meaning in my mind lack of traction. With the wet roads it makes sense. I upped the traction control to level and the handling got worse . Red lights were the same . This rpm light isnt always an issue so i am certain its the rubber and not the rider for once .

    So down to my question
Best wet and dry tyres in your opinions ?
I had the metzler roadtec01 on my CBR and loved those really nice trusting feeling in those . But different bike different rubber .

  2. 1. Don’t ride in the rain, it ruins your bike and Ducati nuts & bolts don’t like it. They only like Italian sun.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the traction control to the console.

    Just messing :p

On a serious note it certainly does rain a fair bit here. (It’s :splat::splat::splat: right now in West Cork and has been for days/weeks.) How old are the tyres? Just a thought.

  3. Didn't check but they have wear ( a good bit ) , not much tread left :/The bike gets a good clean after every ride so it should be okay !

Looking at them they will be on the way out in two months , and knowing Ireland its going to rain and i'm going to need to get to work . I'm looking for sporty / traction in the rain and i don't care about mileage on the tyre as long as i get 5k out of them

  4. Ooh. I don’t think I’ve ever got 5k out of tyres and I don’t do track days or push them on the road, but then they’ve always been soft compound tyres. If you want 5k you’re going to have to compromise with a harder compound and look at some of the sport/touring tyres designed for sports/tourers.

Personally, on the 848, I’d go for softer compound sports tyres but if you’re riding in all weathers choose one with a bigger tread pattern not something like a Pirelli Supercorsa.

  5. That's my thought as well i love the idea of a softer compound but grip in the rain is number 1 really its a difficult one

  6. Thread moved

  7. Michelin Road 5, best all round tyre that handles like a sports tyre.

  8. Absolutely. Dont skimp on tyres on a sports bike....years ago i got my rsv4 factory....i took the knackered supercorsas off without even riding it....put on the cheapest bridgestone tyres i could find, did 100 miles on them....exited a roundabout at 10mph cracked the throttle and within a split second it went sideways and in one swoop twisted my shoulder and squashed my knackers....took them straight off and went straight for supercorsa's - since then ive never ever get the cheapest stuff...

  9. These are my current favorite, yet to fitto the Multistrada, I accept that this isn't the same as the OPs bike, but my mate on his 996 uses these for all round riding (not track use mind you) and loves them. Don't need much, if any, in way of warm up which for your use sounds ideal.

  10. I red light? Is it constant of on/off and the power seems to stop?

Either it’s the traction doing its job (at higher settings it allows almost no slip and can be very intrusive) or someone has changed you shift lights to 6k revs

  11. Not constant just traction assisting , with irish roads and lvl 8 traction in use a 10th of the throttle and the lights are on so dropped it to lvl 5.

  12. I was thinking of getting them kinda stuck for choice since there is so many options

  13. Just turn it off fella. Doesn’t need it. Or if really wet stick it on 2
