Morning All

  1. Another newbie signing in.

I don't own and have never owned a Ducati. However, I am currently on the hunt for a "something for the weekend sir" bike.

At present I own a 2017 Versys 650 Grand Tourer which I use most days for commuting. It's also been over and around the Isle of Man and done me proud in Europe.

I recently treated myself an Africa Twin Adventure Sport for the longer overseas trips.

But you know what it's like. 1 bike is never enough. Then 2 bikes are never enough......

So I need something sporty for the weekends and occasional trackday. Last year I sold my 17 plate 675 Street Triple R which was a cracking bike to ride. Most of my sports bikes have been middleweights like the CBR600rr or ZX6R.

I was looking at 848s but I've seen a couple of 899s for just over the £8k mark which is round about my budget. My only problem is that it's been a very long time since I rode a Ducati sportsbike, so I need to get some test rides sorted. I took a Brutale 800 last year and really enjoyed that so MVs are also on the radar.

Anyway, happy new year to you all and the first round is on me.

  4. Welcome Kwacky. :) :upyeah:

  5. I have ridden a 900ss. Nice looking bikes. I've also swung my leg over an ST2, ST4, 916 and 996.

The last Ducati I rode was a big Multistrada. As owned by a member of this very same forum.

  6. Welcome, you would just squeeze an 1198S in at your budget - and they won't devalue much if at all in the future :):upyeah:

  14. I moved from an MV to a Ducati last year, Turismo Veloce to a Multistrada 1260. As you say, the MV was great, ideal for solo riding. However, multiple electrical failures on last year's tour to the Dolomites boiled my piss somewhat. Only two years old and just out of warranty, well maintained with attention such as dialectic grease to connectors etc. Parts availability and shrinking dealer network made me reconsider and also take a considerable hit on trade in. That and new girlfriend who likes going on the back meant more grunt, better luggage capacity and less that the knife edge handling of the Turismo made sense for long days on tour.

An MV as a 2nd bike is maybe not so much of an issue. They are exquisite and I enjoyed mine for the time I had it, relatively unique compared to the Mutley though quite often was seen as other bikers as a Multistrada until they took a second look. If I had a garage and the space I would have kept it.

Don't regret my decision to defect though, loving the 1260S.
