Thats correct, most countries are in their own regional version of the EU, which has a trade agreement with the EU. This is probably because they believe that being in trading block is benificial. That they are not in the EU is possibly because they are not in Europe?
Trading blocks are not eu dependent, anyone can have one and are not dependent on the eu. which is what I said a few posts ago was it not? seems fair so here goes....195 countries in the world, after we leave, only 27 will be in the eu. The rest seem to do okay. Thank you for confirming I was right.
Unlike the vast majority of the worlds nations, the UK will not be a member of its regional trading group.
My point is that all major economically powerful nations in the world are members of their regional trading group. Subsequently the regional trading group generally negotiates a deal with the other world trading groups including the EU. The UK may be the first country to prove this is not the best way to trade worldwide, it could be about to fall on its ass, perhaps a majority of the MPs will agree and vote through a new position, or maybe the whole issue will be decided by another referendum. We will soon see.
Still learning here so be patient. What are the other trade groups ? Are they just a trade group or are they a similar setup to the EU ?
It varies, it can be a direct one country to one country, one country to one trade group, a recent example of canada to the eu, and it can be specific areas such as asia with middle eastern or african trade organisations. They tend to be mixtures of trade and country groups. The key part is, if business wants to trade, they always find a way to trade This gives just some of those https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:International_trade_organizations
Thers a huge variation, Mercosur is most of Latin America, Nafta is Canada USA & Mex, there are all kinds. This will explain some better than me and give you some leads to google more info! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trade_bloc
Had a brief look at the links above. Seems there are 5 economic unions, including the EU. What’s not obvious, to me anyway, is what are the costs to each country involved in the economic unions.
I'm not sure other economic unions have a 'Brussels' as such The Brexit Video here is interesting - mainly the massive trade deficit we have with the EU and Germany in particular! https://www.tutor2u.net/economics/reference/customs-unions-and-single-markets
I’ve only touched the surface I think, but it looks to me at the moment as if the others are just about trade.
just remember. apparently its all about sovereignty (bollox) so when yer voting out, that involves three out of the four nations having to give up a large proportion of theirs. and for what?
Good question, one I have no idea what the answer is to though. To me it should be about what is best for the whole of the UK. At the moment the bit I don't get is why we have another level of politicians involved, it doesn't look like other economic unions do. The others seem to be countries agreeing free movement of people and trade within a group of countries. perhaps our government needs a bloody good shake up, maybe leaving the EU will be a step in the right direction from that point of view.
You keep doing this childish whinge fin so I'll ask you straight out, are you saying (1)The 2.6 million Scots that voted did not know it was a UK WIDE REFERENDUM and (2) The 2.6 million Scots that voted, didn't know leave or stay were the options and (3) The 2.6 million Scots that voted never knew that the democratic National vote would decide the question?
Perhaps looking at it from the other side? A few days ago I posted an interview in a German newspaper by the the European Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources, Gunther Oettinger. He said that unless we accept the eu's deal, we will become a third country like Azerbaijan or Morocco. In economic terms we are the 5th largest (for now) economy in the world, Morocco is 61st and Azerbaijan is 90th. If Germany and the eu think the U.K. will sink to nearly 90th in the world economy tables if we go down the rest of the world route of free trade and wto, then why are they so keen to keep hold of us?
Because we contribute to the EU budget ? Another bit I don't get, why do all the countries have to pay to be a part of the EU ? Do the other economic unions pay ?
Think mafia Members pay for protection, in this case if it is made within the eu and travels within the eu then no tariffs. If it is also made outside of the eu, the eu will impose substantial tariffs on cheaper non eu products, to protect the eu members who pay for protection
