?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

  1. Wasn't quite what I was getting at.

My point was, I hope, Things aren't going well for them at the moment, apparently due to China market and slump in diesel sales, maybe it's just the BBC - but why try to say it is because of brexit ?
Fair enough to say they are worried brexit won't help, but their current problems have nothing to do with it.

  2. My opinion is that JLR are predominantly a luxury car maker (which is good) but when downturns come (currently China, but wait for the rest) they are the first to be squeezed. Mass producers have smaller margins and greater flexibility to weather the storms but JLR should know that and plan accordingly (which I'm sure they do). Job losses are part of the planning process as in any industry.
BREXIT is a non-issue in this case in m opinion, but JLR management will be happy to use it to deflect criticism - wrong as that may be.

  3. most wise companys and people are bright enough to keep there politics and business seperate. they tend to do their campaign through trade bodys. i bet there is a few companys wanting to say brexit has caused a down turn but fear the rath of the brexiteer.

  4. JLR have been rather less than honest during this period. Diesel sales have dropped 23% on the whole for the U.K. and JLR have lost 50% of their sales in China. In the U.K. Also the new higher vehicle new vehicle tax has impacted on the higher end cars above £40k.

There was always going to be some companies who blame their own shite management and planning on Brexit or those seeking to move overseas but were afraid to leave the U.K. but are now having happy days because they are using Brexit.

We've seen this with dukes nonsense everytime he puts up JLR, we go and look and sure enough, JLR fecks up on a regular basis. To put it into context, the Chinese market is hitting the luxury car market from europe very very hard but only JLR is screaming like pussies.

Whatever JLR claim, 90% of their problems will NOT be brexit

This might also explain a bit, JLR evoque in China £40,000, Chines copy Landwind, £14, 000

  5. have you experienced how unreliable and poorly finished the "luxury car maker" products are....

  6. No, why ?

Do you mean that's their problem ?

  7. im sure its a contributory factor....buy bits from anywhere like china as long as they are cheap, use cheap labour as long as it cheap.......oh, obviously we will have UK based executives on their 100000k pa....

  8. Land rover vehicles have been top of the least reliable luxury vehicles for years

It also touches on something we said before, JLR currently have a plant in china as well.

If you are spending over a hundred grand on a new range rover, would you want a range rover built in the U.K. or the same range rover but built in China? There is a badge snobbery on big money items and if your cars are coming from slovakia and china when you thought they were British, it can effect the choices of those with the cash

  9. They seem popular though, tend to see a lot of them about.

Isn't this the sort of thing that has caused the decline of manufacturing / industry in this country anyway ?

I'm waiting for the BBC to say the decline of the British Motorcycle industry was because of Brexit.

  10. Ford have just announced that they are to make thousands redundant in europe as part of a cost restructuring of their business and part of their £11 billion global cost saving plan and funily enough, it was predicted last year in December and brexit was never mentioned

  11. Wait till the BBC have done their bit, will be brexits fault soon.

  12. Must be due to Brexit surely?! Possibly a misquote as I'm sure Brexit is short for restructuring............

  13. It doesn't matter. The whole point is that Parliament would be disolved until the G.E., we would leave on WTO and there's nothing an MP could do about it because Parliament is not sitting. The Gov is still in place and can manage the orderly exit.

Whoever came into power 5 days after we have left would just have to get on with it, which is what everyone wants. This country can't handle years more of this bickering and negotiating with the EU. Get out and get on with in by deciding our own rules and tax policies.

  14. This is why China has been disastrous as the Chinese with money didn't want China built Range Rovers @ £45K - and the Land Wind copy was launched at around £15k at the same show looking almost identical:bucktooth:

  15. The thing with JLR is

90% of their offerings are diesel, 25% of their stock goes to China, of that 25% they have lost 50% of sales in China due to the tariff war between China and the U.S. causing what used to be foreign brand buyers, holding onto their money.

Any jlr cars built in china are not viable to be shipped to the U.S. as they are categorized as Chinese made cars in the tariff war. Dieselgate and the lying germans have effectively plunged diesel sales in the toilet.

After 21 consecutive months of decline in the U.K., manufacturers are selling 38% fewer diesel cars now than at their peak. Diesel cars now make up less than 32% of the market, having been virtually at parity with petrol two years ago. Sales of petrol vehicles increased by 8%.

The total of all this is, It's the Chinese's fault, the Americans fault, the new U.K. higher luxury car taxes fault, Brexit's fault, peoples fault, German diesels fault, but nowhere will you see from JLR, we have very highly paid senior management positions that are supposed to plan and see such things in advance and head them off and they failed. JLR's senior management created much of JLR's problems but still reverted to type of laying off the workers rather than the managers responsible.

  16. Project fear - the timing of this announcement is strategic - the reporting is against the official release from JLR - it stated Diesel / China and to a lesser extent 'Brexit' - nicely added as an after thought. The BBC have highlighted Brexit. Ford announced lost jobs in Europe but stated not UK. The news said UK jobs and Ford plants at risk.
The Chinese JLR salesman said people were buying cheaper cars (there's the Land Wind again) and the cars it showed in the report on the transporters - while highlighting lost sales for the UK economy were all built in China: Evoque's and Discoveries :eyes:

  17. maybe when we enter the big wide world they will all get their jobs back on April the first?

  18. After the 4500 job losses at JLR the staffing levels will be back to where they were in 2016 - the amount of expansion and subsequent job losses are changes to the 'expansion' plans of the business. The new job losses have been announced as management and R&D jobs predominantly at the HQ where no cars are built, the manufacturing plant have already adjusted to the down turn which was not caused by Brexit - so you can keep your Birthday all to yourself :p
