This is my all time favourite. It's blended but beautiful. Haven't any at the moment as it has a short shelf life once I get stuck into it. It's like a rich fruity caramel, an alcoholic toffo almost. Mouth watering thinking about it. I did a single malt tasting at a Belgian guys house last year with the dark chocolate chunks mentioned earlier. He put 9 bottles on the table for us to sip and provided various cliched accompaniments as well as the chocolate (haggis and tatties I recall, but it soon got fuzzy, could have been more). I tasted all 9 within about half an hour and promptly passed out on the sofa. Tasting notes.... Next time.
Saw this in the airport on our way home. At a mouthwatering €929 that’s €50 per 50cl (home measure). Even though I like malt whisky it wasn’t too hard to resist.
It's much vaunted and now seen as being some of the best in the world. I was in Tokyo a couple of years back and ended up in a whisky bar with every brand of malt you could imagine. I tried some of the Japanese drinks and personally didn't find them as smooth as my favourite Scottish. Even in this Japanese specialist haunt, Scottish was very much on the menu. I can't remember names of any I tried apart from Yamazaki, which was a little sharp for me.
I almost bought that at the airport last week but have to admit I settled for a litre of Jameson’s as my ‘everyday’ whiskey supply needed topping up. It’s worth buying next time then?
Aberlour - very nice, recommended. Anything 10 years plus. I am biased but it's my favourite non-peaty whisky
Tonight I am drinking Hibiki, Japanese whisky. It’s actually really nice. Not had it before. My only gripe is I’m in London and the measures here are 25cl . In Ireland they’re 33cl and what you’re looking at is a double . But in my defence, using man maths, a single is £5.50 and a double is £8.50 so it seems to me a double is cheaper (per shot)
Thanks for the heads up. I’ll have to get my sister to buy some and keep it for me til I’m next in the UK
While We Wait has proven to be a nice little drink... some of the reviews haven't been glowing, but I've been enjoying mine and those I provided with some haven't grumbled. Beautiful island and a gorgeous distillery too.
