Well, wet is quoted as 200kg. I think I have saved 15kg already. Take 15kg off for 15l not being in the tank and I’m theoretically at 170kg with 2l of fuel... that doesn’t seem right to me. I’m sure my calcs are right, and I’m sure Trioptions don’t come back with a minimum of 8kg of fuel.... so something funny is going on....
So 24kgs for oil, fuel, clutch/brake, water. Probably about right I'd guess: 14 fuel, 10 others? So dumping standard kit, replacing with the stuff you have is 15kg, you have 10 more or so to hit the limit, so maybe all fluids plus 2l is about 12?
I think you’re mixing up calcs or I’m mid reading it (you may be saying the same thing?... reading it again, I think you are!).... The 959 fuel tank is allegedly 17l. Losing 15l of that (using a specific weight of 0.749g/cc), just under 12kg comes off the 200kg. Lose the other 15kg I think I’ve lost and it is down to 173kg, so 3kg under weight.
I have still to add in the weight of the oil catch pan, engine covers, tank protectors, bobbins, shark fin, fork protectors, radiator guard and brake protector, which may all roughly add up to the 3kg (my guess would be nearer 2kg, but there about).
My thinking. Easy to forget 3.5l of oil, couple litres of water maybe, bit of brake/clutch fluid front & rear
No. If I do, I’ll hire something... although it wouldn’t be a massive job to put lights and fairings back on.
Not weight saving, although a reduction in adding too much additional weight.... wired an LED strip rainlight to an OEM rear light connector. The Bike Sport Developments race switches have a rainlight switch which uses the brake light switch connection from the front M/C... so the rain light is switched on/off at the right hand controls using the OEM loom.
I have mostly been reattaching exhausts and suspension rather that take a lot off (I’m probably nearly there with that unless I start buying some bits). However I did get around to weighing the horn. A whole 285g with the bracket...
Finally together and whacked on the scales..... Using bathroom scales on dodgy 100 year old floorboards I get a measurement with no fuel at 178.6kg, which is just over 2kg (or a lithium battery) above the minimum weight.... not bad going for not a lot of cash. It will be interesting to see if it feels any different.
So I went over my weights and calculations again to see how close they were. I’m guessing my weighed weight isn’t spot on considering how I did it, but I would expect it to be within a couple of kg... Start at Ducati’s quoted 200kg wet weight - (17x0.749) 12.7kg fuel - my estimated weight loss 15.3kg + ~2kg estimated for crash protection added Without weighing = estimated wet weigh (no fuel) of 174kg. Actual weight on scales = 178.6kg, so 4.6kg more than estimated, either from Ducati not being truthful or my weighing technique... however within a couple of percent.
Mines removed as well.... couldn't believe the weight of this... plus the bolt!!! Bloody hilarious! its no wonder these bikes are putting on so much weight....
My 1199 is 177kg with about 2 litres of fuel has the following as well as loosing about 1.3kg with 90 or so Ti bolts, you have to add a bit for the blipbox and rapidbike TTX & Öhlins forks with NIX 30mm - Akra Titanuim Full Exhaust - RB evo - Blip Box Pro - DP rear sets - OZ Wheels - DBHolders Subframe
Just adding the Motoholders rear subframe courtesy of @Nelson 1.32kg vs 3.66kg, so another 2.34kg saving for not a lot due to mates rates! So down to 176.3kg with no fuel as weighed.
