British Indy: What Happens Now?

Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. The EU the UK and the Irish have all said there won't be a hard border yet an EU official has openly announced with a no deal there will be a hard border.
    What's your solution?

  2. Hint: Maybe stop believing in things the EU tell you?

    Andrew Adonis!

  4. You have a vivid imagination,as nowhere on any of my posts will you find those words.
Just like everything in life, there are pros and cons.
Those who voted to leave feel that the cons outweigh the pros.

  5. Absolutely not, the UK can determine the import tariffs which would be the same for the EU as rest of the world, we could choose 0% for example. The EU can reduce also if they see fit; Irish beef farmers would be out of business if they didn't!

I would really request that you try reading this for an understanding of how it could work: https://lawyersforbritain.org/leaving-the-eu-on-wto-terms-pulling-down-the-barriers-to-world-trade

So where is the link for the article about the EU having a free trade deal with 60 countries????? This really isn't correct.

  6. And could I also ask -

    Andrew Adonis? Really?

  8. If we cannot demand it from our elected politicians, we must have it imposed upon us by a foreign government?

    That's your hot take?

    Best you stay busy, pal!

  12. Both of these are the fault of our own government, and not the EU.
We have laws in place to control immigration, including from the EU, but it is our own government that decides not to use them.

For example: European Parliament and Council Directive 2004/38/EC, allows EU member states to repatriate EU nationals after three months if they have not found a job or do not have the means to support themselves.

    Link: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2004:158:0077:0123:en:PDF

As for reducing salaries in low paid jobs, again that is factually incorrect:

"There is a perception that immigrants are mostly taking unskilled jobs and lowering wages for the domestic population, but the evidence points firmly in the other direction. At Russell Group universities, up to 39% of academic staff are foreign; over 26% of our NHS doctors are non-British; and the heads of many of our leading companies are immigrants, including the chief executives of Jaguar Land Rover (Ralf Speth) and Reckitt Benckiser (Rakesh Kapoor)."

For apprenticeships, changes to the way in which the government funds these (ie, introducing levies and reducing funding, aka "cuts") means that they are becoming more difficult for companies to both manage and finance these schemes.

  13. You do realise that if you replace "MP" with "MEP" then that is exactly what happened in this case?

The point being that the UK government said: "nah fuckem, we don't care what's in their food!"
But the EU was having none of it because it cares about the health of the people across all nations in the EU.

No, that's just you being lazy.

For example, how does the first answer apply to this one?
    (70/72) 05/03/2015 eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/…
EU: These measures will protect National Statistical Authorities from interference by their National Governments.

Genuinely interested because I can't see any of these as being a bad thing for every single person in the UK.

  16. Why should the government fund apprenticeships
Surely that’s the company’s job to invest in the future
Or maybe it’s easier/ cheaper to bring in some foreign workers claiming to be fully skilled already
Either way it damages this country in the long run

  18. Lets ask a simple straightforward question
If you were in a trading block and had a close neighbour (forgetting all the anguish and history of Brexit) and that neighbour was a massive potential customer of you 'block'. You were going to reap the benefits of a free trade deal due to them buying much more than you were going to buy from them - would you welcome a free trade with said neighbour for the ultimate benefit of your 'block'. Would you do the deal as 'leader' of the top table in your club, or would you block it and why? :)
