I’m one of those who would normally shy away from these kind of discussions for all the reasons mentioned above. I have the Lounge and Speakers Corner on ignore and only venture in when I feel the occasional perverse need to get soiled. I’m on the train home after a week in London, enjoying a meal and a bottle of wine in the Pulman restaurant so I guess it’s one of those occasions ... So .... (crazy idea) ... How about creating a related but totally seperate forum for Speakers Corner and moving it there ... you could call it Ducati Arseoles or something like that (opinions are like arseoles afer all). Rob could even do the same with the Fireblade forum and just have one Big Arseholes forum. I’m sure we’d end up with more members and more posting overall across the different forums ... more on riding, fixing and enjoying Ducati’s and more on the other stuff as well. Just a crazy thought. Not really serious ... but it is interesting that the old Ducatisti forum had a zero tolerance policy on politics and religion etc and was way more active on the Ducati riding, fixing, maintaining and enjoying side with more meets, tours, trips and tips.
Interesting idea. I like your thinking. A little. I'm curious though. You have the Lounge and Speakers Corner forums on Ignore (kudos to you!) but occasionally look in on them (?) and that makes you want to suggest that these forums are moved to a different website? Is that correct? What happens when look in on the new website's Lounge and Speakers Corner forums? Will you ask that they are moved from there to yet another website?
Great demonstration of what puts some off. Suggestion made; passive aggressive ‘not thought this thru, have you. Not very bright, are you’ response made.
... the goal of my suggestion and the reason I make it would be to reduce the number of people who leave the Ducati Forum or visit less frequently (folk like me, Mr.R, Glidd amongst others) because they have had enough of the Arseoles ... so that the Ducati-focused part of the forum thrives more.
light hearted reply, not digging Which is what most adults do. Don't like a particular poster, then use ignore. Don't like one of the 42 sections, don't use that section. Problem solved, tadaaah I have to ask, do you mean just having a forum where people who post perhaps 10 times a year and wonder how interesting/popular it would be? I believe, and you can strip me naked and smack my privates with a wet kipper if incorrect, that we do indeed have these exact options within this forum, who'da funk it Fair point, personally I enjoy forums with limited inputs as you have no idea how often I love seeing 50 times a week, what battery is best for my broken ducati
Trouble is ... that suggestion doesn’t work in practice and the problem is manifestly not solved ... otherwise we wouldn’t have folk like me, Glid and Mr.R amongst others backing away. As it is the Ducati-focused chat and the Arseoles bleed into each other. I’m suggesting a less permeable membrane between the two. You’ve lost me there but if you are referring to my idea of a purely Ducati-focused forum without Arseoles (i.e. political opinions etc) then historical evidence is that it would have way more posts and more varied posts than you suggest - more than we have now on Ducati-related topics actually. It is the Arseoles that are driving Ducati-focused folk away :-(
I thinks there's always been a thread or two that some may have felt controversial, but they normally die a death and people move on. It's this bloody brexit thing really, it's just a relentless churn of the same every minute of every day on the TV, the radio and of course that spills to threads on the forum. I've personally had enough of it now, it's just a depressing mess Ps - That's not aimed at any people on the forum still with the will to carry on the debate, god bless their tenacity
Fair point by el and rather picks up on my I have to ask, do you mean just having a forum where people who post perhaps 10 times a year and wonder how interesting/popular it would be? If the old ducactisti forum was that great in the format you wish to see applied to this forum, then where is it? supply and demand is a wonderful realism of actuality
It’s gone mate ... the owner settled down to get married and have a family and decided to stop. He had little incentive to carry on at that point as it was always a hobby not a commercial venture. He never made any money from it ... no subscriptions for extra content or no ads ... just donations if you fancied it.
It was incredibly busy, and there any politics etc, at all, was simply deleted. Imho it missed that pub talk type of stuff that here does a lot better.
This forum has taught me quite a lot. For example the forum and this topic have brought me up to date on the Snowflake phenomenon. I've learnt how cunning Scottish thrift is by how finman has got other people to offer to pay his subs. But these off Ducati topics are good fun and I get to read the views of people who have opposite views to me. If I want to comment I can. If I get lambasted for it then so what, I've said what I want and I don't want to get into a last word war so I leave it there. So the OE said lounge and speakers corner for subscribers only. I agree, the forum is FOC for Ducati purists, the rest can be for subscibers who want a bit of cut and thrust and banter with those views opposite. TB
