V4 Another Recall

  1. So I got a call today after wanting to collect my bike that there's now a recall on the headers!
It should be sorted ready for the end of next week but starting to waver a little bit on whether this bike is the right decision?! I'm hoping this isn't going to on going through the whole ownership.

On the upside they have now thrown in a charger for the Li battery FOC.

  2. Already mentioned I think.
But why not? You will end up with a new bike :)

  3. I did look quickly for a thread but couldn't see one...
True, but I can't be arsed with it going in and out every other week!

  4. That’s the downside, the time lost having to take the bike in etc, that’s why I tend to wait and purchase a bike that’s a few years old and has the work already done. But......you have the peace of mind that if anything does go wrong or needs doing it gets done free of charge.

  5. He already paid for new bike. Double new bike :)

  6. Did your dealer explain why the headers are subject to recall ? Andy

  7. He didn't just that all 2018 bikes will need the updated parts to bring them in line with 2019 builds. It's not a safety recall though just a 'quality' one, so no rush to have it done. I am going in tomorrow though so will ask for more details.

  8. Thank you :upyeah: Andy

  9. Mines going in for recall#2 later in Feb, I'll ask if they do this along with it

  10. I quite like all this recall stuff. It gives me the perfect excuse to keep fekkin off to the dealers and yarning with everyone down there about how amazingly attractive I am.

  12. I rather thought you had let yourself go!

  13. You do wonder on the v4's whether the pcp should include discounted months when the dealer thinks the bike is on a time share between you and them?

  15. I think it fits perfectly with the Ducati cliche. Why bother riding your bike when you could mince about drinking coffe and talk about how amazing it is...

  16. Exactly. And how wank all the other 'cheaper' brands are :p

  17. So apparently 'during extremely spirited riding' the headers can blow holes in themselves! That's what the official recall document said pretty much, with some pictures of holey headers.

My parts should arrive with them on Monday and they're planning on delivering it for me on Saturday :D

  18. As said above, it’s not a recall on all bikes and there will be loads out there unaffected. Anyone who has purchased recently will not be contacted, it seems to be very early bikes so don’t be surprised if you don’t get contacted.
Of the 60 odd V4 variants we have sold, only 14 are affected.

Apparently under very hard use (we assume this to mean track) some early headers can crack. However as yet, we’ve not seen one example up here so I think it’s more precautionary than anything.

I had one of the very first V4s last year and used it seriously hard on track (albeit Knockhill and not a euro track) and had no issues. I also have customers who’ve used them on tracks such as Almeria which has a 180mph back straight and had no issues either so I don’t think it’s gonna affect many here (hopefully)

Advice is, get it resolved over the next few weeks if you’re contacted and you’ll be sorted for summer sun.

    Mart.

  19. The power of the very latest Sportsbikes seems to be pushing bike components up to and sometimes beyond their engineering limits.

Do most of you track-only V4 owners use slicks? Tyres that were OK on most Sportsbikes seemed to struggle on the V4 on the few trackdays I went to last year.

  20. I'd say the vast majority of track only V4's (or anything really) use slicks. I read a report that such was the power of the V4 that the back tyre was slipping on the rim. Not sure if this is a common thing but I'd only heard of it in WSBK and the like previously.
