British Indy: What Happens Now?

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. Tick Tock

    Hard Brexit ahead

    All engines full

    No bomb in Derry.

  2. Are those facts or emotions? I know how you feel on the difference :D

  3. If there is a hard border with Ireland, then it is their own stupidity if they kick the troubles off again.........but IMO, they were always going to do that anyway - Brexit is just an excuse.

  4. This has been verified elsewhere ... so despite it appearing in a national newspaper, this activity is real and ongoing.

  5. Many years ago, during the technical part of my career I worked with Europeans on technical matters. At times I found their strict adherence to procedures and bureaucracy extremely frustrating. The concepts of revolution and innovation were alien to them. Ripping up the rule book and thinking out the box was strictly verboten. On the two occasions over 8 years I managed to persuade them to be radical, what actually happened was there was a pause in proceedings and they came back to me and presented my idea as if it was their solution and they were explaining it to me as I had never heard of it before. It was unbelievable. So it’s possible the EU will fold, but unlikely, and if they do, don’t be surprised if they claim the credit.

I share the pain of those people who complain about the EU with regards to the above, I really do.

Are they going to have a sudden departure from from type? I think not.

    Tick Tock

  6. Genuinely interested, 749er, on your take.

Legally speaking, UK leaves the EU on 29 March 2019.
The WA has been voted down by the UK Parliament.
The EU will not accept any other deal.
    WTO Brexit applies 29 March.
The GFA means no hard border.
A hard border leads to a return to the criminality and murdering of the past (apparently).

Assuming no magical/illegal cancellation of Brexit or deferral of the Art.50 time limit, and all other things being equal, which do you see being most likely?

    a. Hard border between Ireland and NI, with a return to the bloodshed
    b. An agreement between the EU and the UK to mitigate a hard border between Ireland and NI whilst a solution is sought.
    c. Another scenario - Caveat: to chose c., you must specify it.

  7. Did anyone see the UK film about the Holocaust last night - the one where Bernstein and Hitchcock were involved in putting together?

It hasn't been shown for about 70 years although some clips have made various programmes.

Apparently a poll shows that one in twenty UK people don't believe it ever happened and many think the numbers disposed of are exaggerated. (I suspect those people are mainly Remainers)

If anyone wants to know why so many want to Leave, it is probably because a member of the EU (and their lap-dogs) can't be trusted.

Because of what took place; there are still two distant relatives (by marriage) in my extended family that have numbers tattooed on their arms - one number is seven digits long. There is also another person in my wife's extended family (a relative by marriage as well) with a six digit number on their arm.

Having talked to two of them a number of years ago, what took place was unbelievable and not really for posting here, but it was even worse than the film showed.

What people have to remember, this was one supposedly civilised country (as they are supposed to be now) carrying it out.

It is no good saying "It can't happen again" just because it hasn't. There have been plenty of other conflicts of a similar nature in Europe and around the world; so there are no reasons why it or something similar could not happen again.

IMO the UK should not be tied to the EU by an organisation which can't readily be held to account.

Sorry about all that, but I am now getting f-ing really p*ssed off with all the Remainers' silly attitudes and the wanky Government we have.

  8. I think we are headed to a no deal Brexit. The experts say there is not enough time to pass the legislation for any agreement we might come to, and the chances of us coming to an agreement on anything looks slim.

    Mays deal is dead.

    Second referendum is dead.

No one can agree on anything else so there won’t be an extension to Article 50.

When I read posts here and watch Question Time all I see is a hardening of people’s attitudes towards the EU and that people are happy for No Deal.if that’s what people want then that’s what will happen, one way or another. If there were a general election tomorrow and Farage was in charge of a party I think he would win. Just seems to be the mood at the moment and that’s democracy.

I can’t see a return to bloodshed in northern Ireland by republicans but I can see them destroying infrastructure on the border. There are moves already by Sinn Féin regarding a unity referendum, which opinion polls show would vote for reunification. No doubt to head off dissident republican violence and to offer different political settlement. The DUP are playing a dangerous game, but since I can’t stand the bigoted carrots that’s fine by me.

Brexit is likely the end of the U.K.

  9. People ‘s memory fades too fast, being Dutch and having heard the stories first hand through my grandparents who where involved in the war, did rather not talk about it but did when I persisted, will learn you that what is currently happening in the EU is the third attempt of the Germans to take over power in Europe, they tried twice unsuccessfully with different means, failing at that they now apply new means, but let’s be clear, if they succeed this time they will not think twice to change the status quo, so please go back to the history books and smell the coffee, before it’s to late!

  11. As an aside. I listen to LBC a lot. Not just James O’Brien and Sheila Fogarty but also Jacob Rees Mogg, Nigel Farage and Nick Ferrari. I think Rees Mogg is a lunatic. Ferrari’s grip on the facts is incredibly loose. Farage on the other hand makes some very compelling arguments.

For example, most people seem to be against Mays deal because “the backstop is a trap”. It’s not a trap and neither is it the main problem with Mays deal. For me, the main problems with Mays deal are the fact it ties the hands of future British Prime Ministers and it also leaves us with a phenomenally weak negotiating position in the future. It was Nigel Farages very convincing arguments on that, that lead me to conclude Mays deal was pish. You cant have that, regardless of whether you think leaving is a bad idea or not.
