The Blackford amendment (o), was tabled by SNP and Plaid Cymru. It noted that Scotland and Wales voted against Brexit and called on Theresa May to extend Article 50 and reject no-deal. The odd thing about that was that Wales strongly voted leave, especially the traditional Labour areas in the Valleys? https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/south-wales-valleys-brexit-vote-leave-a8021051.html
The ERG seem to be backing the PM tonight, perhaps they might be prepared to compromise and support her if she goes back to the EU and gets worthwhile movement on the backstop.
When they say the amendment to not leave without a deal is non binding does that mean it’s pointless ?
It was largely procedural and not an obligation/requirement. All would have known this before the vote. What will happen now is those who voted on the no no deal side, will remind the government the majority of the house agreed no deal and the government will remind them it was non binding or a requirement. Little more than a waste of parliaments time and little more than a cock measuring contest by the remainers. Still, some like glitter and sparkles.
No: it makes negotiation of an alternative to the Backstop a little harder. It’s harder getting a deal when the other side know you won’t walk away from the table.
