You need to answer a couple of questions honestly first: 1) how much do you want to spend? 2) are you going to swap between road and track setup a lot? If it is a road bike that you are occasionally going to track I would go with the DP track fairings and just take off mirrors/plate to go to track. If it is a dedicated track bike, go full race fairings with a front subframe (but you really won’t be able to ride on the road without a lot of work to swap it back).
I have the DP ones and I just leave my lights in and use them on the road after Trackdays until I can bothered to swap the proper ones back on Again.
Jolley, Thanks for your reply, it's helpful. I've several other road bikes so being able to ride the 959 on the road isn't a factor. Having dabbled in track riding on road bikes, I want to give track riding a go for a season and see how i get on. I'm Inter group at the moment so the bike will be faster than me, maybe the DP fairings plus some crash protection is the answer for a season then take stock. Take the bike further if I really take to it, convert it back to a road bike if not.
They are about £450 I think. Can’t remember what I paid now but they’re worth the money as they fit perfectly and come with dummy lights, mirror blanks and bolts and fixings etc
If you are not worried about having it available for road use I would get hold of some used race fairings and take all the lights off and put them in a box. It isn’t going to be quicker to switch back from the DP fairings (if you put the light blanks in it will be slower) to put fully back to original. The DP ones are great for the stock look and to be able to get it straight back on the road (just taking mirrors and tail tidy on and off), but dedicated track fairings are a lot lighter and simpler for a pure track machine. You are also more likely to find second hand race fairings than second hand DP ones (899/1199 ones will fit if you get the race front subframe for an 899/1199) (My profile picture is the DP fairings, I’m currently swapping to race ones).
Give hi fibre a shout, not sure how much a set is but it's decent stuff. Been using it since 2015 on a Ducati Cup bike. Fits without too much faff and is fairly robust. Not the lightest but prefer the thicker stuff as it survives a bit better in a crash. You'll need air ducts and a race sub frame up front. http://hifibre.co.uk
+1 for Hifibre my old man uses them for his 2017 R1 track bike and they fit brilliantly compared to some we’ve had
What crash protection are you going to use. I’m looking around at the minute to see what I’m going to fit to my 959.
I have the GBRacing engine case covers (the only ones available with FIM approval). I also put front fork sliders on, usually evotech.
Thanks for that. I’ve used the GB stuff in the past but wasn’t sure this time due to needing to remove a plastic cover on the clutch side which appears to need some fairly major dismantling to remove! As a result I’ve ruled out crash bungs and am planning on fitting some Bonamici aluminium case sliders and evotech fork/swing arm bobbins.
I’m sure it is just two bolts into either end of the blue bracket. I think the metal bracket might even stay there and it is just the little plastic cover you have to remove (edit: the metal bracket isn’t on mine any more, so can only assume one of the cover bolts holds it, probably one you have to take off.
