British Indy: What Happens Now?

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. Simples...

  2. As a lifelong Arsenal fan (I know, life is difficult for us at the moment) we used to have a guy playing for us called Emmanuel Petit - his terrace chant was :

'He's blonde, he's quick, his names a porno flick Emmanuel, Emmanuel (repeat until bored) '

    One of the better ones.

  3. Well if thats what you think... Just one day huh?

  4. Go on then, tell me why not? What part of walking away and offering a free trade deal with none of the imperialistic bollocks would not be beneficial to the EU? No negotiation needed - one simple deal. How do you argue our trade deficit with the EU away - stop the myriad of bollocks spoken by the remainers over the last few years and answer simplistically how this would not work for both the EU and the UK.
It really is that simple - the EU bullies would spite themselves for revenge then? But how long would business allow this.
Then the odd other issue such as European people here and Brits abroad you may ask? Well, another massive net benefit to the EU to remain with the current status quo on that score too - please argue this away too...
It really could have been so simple if only a third of the country were not so weak minded and scared of Brussels

  5. With May EU elections looming and with them facing so many issues and the economy rapidly cooling. They may be more reasonable to accepting the provisions set out under WTO Article 24, Not for 10 years but perhaps for a 2 year period to enable new negotiations to take place. WTO is just the stepping stone until new trade deals are agreed and in the event of no deal, the Government will be looking to roll over FTA's already applicable as members of the EU:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...rexit-deal#after-march-2019-if-theres-no-deal

Some outline of the Article 24 opportunity:
Officials from the U.K.'s Department for International Trade are investigating the possibility of keeping tariffs between Britain and the EU at zero as part of an interim arrangement that could last up to 10 years, allowing more time for a full trade deal to be negotiated after Britain has left the bloc, according to sources familiar with the discussions that have taken place at the World Trade Organization.

Under a little-known WTO clause, the U.K. and Brussels would be allowed a “reasonable length of time” after Brexit to agree a free-trade deal before trade law would force both sides to impose the same tariffs on each other as they do on everybody else. Such a transitional deal would allay fears about an impending cliff edge in March 2019, when Britain is set to crash out of the single market and face the EU's steep external tariffs on goods ranging from meat to cars.

The provision, set out in Article 24 of the WTO's General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, can only be challenged by other countries if the temporary continuation of existing tariffs is not applied to all trade. This makes a special deal for finance or the car industry less likely as part of any interim arrangement.

According to Geneva-based officials, British trade experts are working on the understanding that a decade would constitute a “reasonable” timeframe to stay on special trading terms with the EU. They are supported by the WTO rules, which state that any interim agreement should "exceed 10 years only in exceptional cases."

  6. And under this arrangement, the Irish border issues are defused; there are no tariffs to collect. Just needs a bit of pragmatism from the EU.

the uk buys more than it sells to the EU? does it? how much of the uk's trade with the world is actually scottish produce but marked british because its left from an english port? there are many many lil sleeket clauses in the GERS figures. great lenghts have gone into hiding the wealth of the other nations within the UK. its Scotland thats predicted to be hit hardest with every scenario presented by the brexiteers and "UK" gov.

  9. Its a difficult question to answer in quick a reply but heres one to consider?

If the government opted for Free Trade with the EU, cutting tariffs on EU imports to zero?

Under Word Trade Organization rules, members must grant the same “most favored nation” access to all members, so if the U.K. scrapped tariffs on EU imports, it would have to scrap them on all imports; at the same time, its exports would still face tariffs. This would have far-reaching implications for the country’s trade competitiveness; no U.K. government will opt for “unilateral free trade

There is no reason to believe Britain will be more successful at signing free trade agreements with non-EU countries than with the EU. There have been none agreed in two years!
