One of those round-to-it jobs, not necessary ordinarily but because I'm me it has to be done! lol ...........removal of surplus item, the exhaust valve servo motor and actuator cable. Been sat there idle since fitting the full Termi 3+ years ago. How the hell do you remove the bugger?! Looks impossible without taking half the bike apart - removal of the battery tray and all the bits to be disconnected/removed to do that?? Am I missing something.....surely that's not the case, for example you'd have to do the above to replace the actuator cable? Not sure where 'BigRisk' (mechanical exhaust valve servo eliminator) got their photo from but there's no way I can get a view like this on my 2010 bike! In reality...... Last pic - fixing screw removed (looks like there may have been two once upon a time but only one in place?) so servo motor loose in the surrounding plastic casing. Looks like you may be able to drop the servo motor downwards to get it out but to do that the surrounding plastic casing needs to come out first and that's fixed in place by two impossible to get to bolts (18 & 19 in the diagram below) So, any advice/instruction welcomed
Andy, just did this on mine, remove screw No.28 and unplug lead No.23, the servo can then be wriggled free, but you need to disengage the cable first from the servo itself. The plastic surround (No.26) has remained in situ in my case. Dave
Accessing the exhaust servo motor is a lot easier than it looks. I had to access mine to fit the cam (similar in shape to the one shown in the picture) that came with the Leo Vince decat. You need to remove both side panels, the rectifier/regulator and it's heat shield. The exhaust motor can now be accessed and unscrewed but not removed. Next you need to remove some screws that secure the top of the battery housing which allows the pipework from the suspension pump (?) to move slightly. This is necessary so that when you tilt up the rear subframe it won't damage the pipes. Remove the bottom bolt to the subframe on each side then loosen the top bolts. This will allow you to tilt up the subframe sufficiently for you to wriggle out the exhaust valve motor. Sounds drastic but it's actually very easy. There is an excellent step by step guide that I followed. If I can find it I'll let you know where it is
Andy, I might be reading the diagram wrong but isn't screw 18 shown to be coming in from the opposite side to screw 28? That would mean you should only be able to see one of them as per your photos?
Andy, You'll find the step by step guide on your info. website. It's buried in the Multistrada 1200 Exhaust Collector/Cat Box Removal article by Turkishexpress. This is the link: Multistrada 1200 Exhaust System Change
Martyn your response is much more coherent than mine and yes you do also need to raise the rear sub frame, sorry forgot that part! I only however needed to unplug the rectifier/regulator to access and free the lead No.23 on the diagram, someone with big hands would struggle though!
Thanks everyone.........Martyn, embarrassed that you obviously know my website better than I do! lol THANKS And Id just logged in to report that I'd found a solution here! :Bucktooth: Motorcycle Info Pages - MTS1200 Tuning & Performance > Arrow Full Exhaust System Install
How about when the time comes to refit the OEM exhaust system and cat complete with working exhaust valve? Are there any instructions for how to do that?
Start at the end of the 'removal article' of choice and work backwards lol Not an issue as far as I'm concerned, as and when my bike will sell with the Termi.....who would prefer the stock exhaust??!! :Jawdrop: Besides, I sold the OE exhaust, ECU etc contributing a nice offset of the cost of the Term ;-)
Well that was one of those 'why the hell did I start this!' jobs but got there in the end..... ....and after a little work with the Dremel, sandpaper, wet&dry etc :Jawdrop:
Few more pics for the hell of it: On-bike connector for the servo motor sealed up ...and everything back in its place ...damned flah photography shows up every spec of dust! lol Looks like the brake pipes should slot into the clips on the back of what was the black plastic servo motor housing but no way they were going in...........don't think they were originally?! Cable tie to secure.
I know this is an old thread but hopefully is still subscribed / watched. I need to replace the cable (part 20 on diagram) and wondering whether it can be replaced without removing the motor. Has anybody done it ? Thanks
It's been a long time but from memory I would say no.....but taking the servo motor out is quite a job in itself. If you might have to take the servo motor out why bother replacing?! Remove the butterfly valve as detailed somewhere here on the forum and an ESE from Healtech so there's no ecu/dash errors... https://www.healtech-electronics.com/products/ese/ ....better still decat and after market can
@AndyW - Thanks. I was hoping will be a straightforward job. Already purchased the cable, the bit that is connected to the exhaust bracket corroded and is loose but still works, glued down with J-B weld. Your suggestion is good but never thought of it as i had no problems with the valve - just spray it with ceramic grease now and then, it can handle a lot of heat. Bike is 2013 and covered 34k miles in all weathers and only washed when it really gets dirty . I don't mind taking things apart - is getting them back together my problem. I hope somebody found a quick way to replace the cable..
Take photos, position/route of cable, fixing points, fit on cam wheel on servo motor...to refer back to in case of need ;-) As far as I can remember it's all pretty obvious.....better safe than sorry though Have fun!
....looking back through this thread, there are bits of the 'how to' here that may help... Multistrada 1200 Exhaust System Change http://www.motorcycleinfo.co.uk/mts12_faq/mts1200_decat/Multistrada_1200_Exhaust_System_Change.htm
Did anyone removed servo motor on DVT (or 1260)? It seems very different from previous models. Service Manual calls for complete disassembling of the bike and removing right side rear frame!!! Is there any easier way?
I just removed all the fairings and tried to get the servo out (2015 DVT) I think you'd have to remove so much of the bike it'd be a nightmare. I'll just connect decat and servo eliminator
