That was in 1930 though, as said, when we still had an empire. The United States of Europe speech was in 1946, after World War 2 and with our empire in tatters

Exactly the opposite thank you very much it's as clear as day Winston was not advocating we joined the 'very weak' people (as Maggie put it) Trouble is nearly half of the country has joined them
Surely you’d need a whole new thread to discuss her and whether or not she was good or bad for the country.
yep. What he realised from history was that a defeated and demorilized Germany could again do as it did before in a way that led to hitler. He said once those have been punished who needed to be punished, (generals, politicians etc etc) then Germany needed to be part of the rebuild into a united states of europe. He knew left to their own devices and given their history, this was possible for Germany to try ww3 if allowed the same humiliation they suffered after ww1 He said but you must remember he was referring to the mainland of europe and not the U.K. I am now going to say something that will astonish you. The first step in the re-creation of the European family must be a partnership between France and Germany. In this way only can France recover the moral and cultural leadership of Europe. There can be no revival of Europe without a spiritually great France and a spiritually great Germany. The structure of the United States of Europe will be such as to make the material strength of a single State less important His Zurich speech from 1946 https://rm.coe.int/16806981f3 at the end of the speech he finished with this Great Britain, the British Commonwealth of Nations, mighty America - and, I trust, Soviet Russia, for then indeed all would be well - must be the friends and sponsors of the new Europe and must champion its right to live. Therefore I say to you “Let Europe arise!”. Making it very clear he saw europe come together to stop war though and we (Great Britian) as well as Russia and the U.S. would be friends to europe (but not be part of it)
With JK Rowling and Rachel Riley involved, it sounds like a very attractive prospect! Just keep Blair well away from it or its doomed.
I honestly believe Tories/TM are already concentrating on winning the next elections with a comfortable majority (imho Labour are starting to pose a serious threat)....Brexit is more and less done, no way any of the different "groups" within the Parliament will form a majority. See how quiet she is after the last visit to Bruxelles..not the usuall "all on track" "constructive talks".
