1200 Bike Sometimes Feels A Bit Lumpy

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by nigeleeezzzz, Feb 13, 2019.

  1. Hi all, I bought a 2013 Multi last November. I love it, its a great bike to ride, and pulls like a train!
I've noticed though that sometimes it feels quite lumpy and thers a bit of a snatchy throttle when I'm on slowish roads doing sort of 30-60mph in traffic in touring mode But if I switch to urban mode there's an improvement particularly in the snatchy throttle. Is this normal? Should I be changing the riding mode when I'm riding in these conditions or is there something wrong? Oddly its not always like this, sometimes in similar conditions it rides absolutely fine

  2. What bike did you have prior to the Multistrada, "it's a big V twin, they all do that sir"....

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  3. Lower your gears for low speeds; 1st >12mph odd. 2nd >30odd 3rd>40mph et cetra.

Every now & then stick a cheap tank of fuel in it too clear the water build up. And give it a good thrashing on some quiet lanes (obviously within the remit of the law).

  4. low oil or dry chain?

  5. Have you had it in a dealer recently for service or work?

  6. When I first bought mine (used) it was doing pretty much what you described. Clutch biting point also seemed random.

The cause was a knackered chain. After I changed it and the sprockets the bike was transformed. They had only done 14K miles but there are a lot of posts on here saying how crap the OEM C&S are. My ZZR 1400 covered 26K before requiring replacement as a benchmark .

  7. OK, just so I know :p

  8. I had a service and the cam belt changed at 9k miles just after I bought it

  9. Accepted opinion is that early Multis don't run well below 3000rpm. This will manifest itself in urban driving. This is because the fuelling at these revs is atrocious.

Once I had the fuelling done on my 2014 twin spark it became the engine I always wantd it to be.

  10. How did you get the fuelling sorted out?

  11. I took it to hilltop motorcycles in Hinckley. I rode 90 miles to have it done as they have a tremendous reputation .

  12. Thats 170 odd miles from where I am mate :(

  13. Do you still have the exhaust valve. Could be sticking.

  14. I dunno, unless the previous owner got shot of it then yes.

  15. Give them a call I think they have a couple of agents around the country, they don't actually need the bike.

  16. Chain and sprockets require changed I would say.
Transformed my bike. Mine was snatchy as hell before the change

  17. I called them and they said they could do it if I removed the ECU and posted it to em. Unfortunately my spannering skills are limited to oiling the chain and checking the tyre pressures so thats never going to happen :D
I'll either have to have a ride up there or find someone local

  18. Well, after much umming ahhing, I bit the bullet and decided to ride the 160 odd miles up to Hilltop Motorcycles in Hinckley to get her remapped.
Wow! The difference it's made is extraordinary, its genuinely transformed the bike. It pulls brilliantly now from under 2000 rpm in any gear. I went for a ride today around some local B roads I know and I have been blown away with the difference its made. If anyone's considering using Hilltop my advice is just do it! Based on my experience you will not be disappointed.

  20. I used Hilltop to remap my GTR and it was £350, can I ask how much this was for your bike please?

Geoff usually does it a touch cheaper the second bike you take.

    Thanks.
