'Cheap' Fairings

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Loverobot, Mar 7, 2013.

  1. The internet bikers' favourite subject, this, apart from the Chazzo debate. I've seen a few bikes with cheap fairing kits and they've all looked great, the owners I've spoke to said they didn't have too many problems fitting them either, and they are dirt cheap. But there are still some people (who haven't bought them) who insist you will die the death of a thousand shards if you go near them.

For the asking price, I'd definitely take the gamble:upyeah:

  2. if you bide your time you can get originals on E-bay quite cheaply with the exception of the nose cone and the monoposto seat. When owners get panels even slightly grazed they will often discard them if insurance extends that far and so repair could be only down to a respray if lucky.

  3. Very true Figgy. Do you buy a set and fit them to keep the originals tidy, or buy a set when you have to because you dont want to drop ££££ on original replacements???

  4. If you like them, buy them.

The best thing about owning cheap after market fairings is you don't spend hours on a track days worrying about whether you have scratched them, especially if you take your bike on a trailer.

Less worrying = more time laughing with your mates and enjoying your bike.

  5. There's a long thread on pistonheads currently where a guy has bought some Chinese 748 fairings, he specc'd a 1098 tricolore paint job which looks pretty good, there was a sticker or two that wasn't 100% but for the money he's not bothered, fit was good apart from the screen but he sorted that and non of the mounting assembly was included for the seat unit locking mechanism, so he swapped that from the original and bonded it in place

  6. From what I've read your need to pick your supplier and beware (as Freak says) the lack of rear seat mounting fixings.

  7. Or try Ricambi Weiss, german ebay company, their f'glass stuff is really good and loads f racers use them. They also do road trim if needed. Only thing will be they will need painting where these obviously don't. Pays yer money, takes yer choice

  8. There are of course some decent aftermarket UK manufacturers.

  9. And they are normally 3 times the cost...dont fit as well and are thinner than the lining of the Titanics hull ;-)

  10. Ricambi don't include mounting points in their stuff either, so you'd still need to do this as well.

I have a *cough*CBR*cough* project on the go and that will be treated to cheap-ass fairings because the crappy fibreglass stuff is only fit for the skip, and it's cheaper to buy the cheap replacements painted than it is to have a set painted to the same in the UK!

Plus once it's done it will be sold and will then be NMP - Not My Problem ;)

  11. Use them on my trackbike, for the money I'd buy these over track fairings all day long! Ready painted (in some tidy schemes) and if I come off and end up destroying them it's not the end of the world, I'll buy another set. They can be a little weak, but not an issue once on. Lugs snap is you force them so take your time, if not super glue works a treat! Make sure they're fitted 100% as I watched an 848 undress itself at cadwell who'd done it half arsed
Not sure I'd be happy to have these on my road bike...... For the track though, all day long!

  12. I picked up a s/h set of Ricambi ones for my project bike....Fook me! Recon bog roll would have been thicker! Passed 'em on.

I did serious consider a set of the chinky ones also, but they don't do a belly pan set.

    Ended up with a set form;

    http://www.superbikebodywork.co.uk/Ducati_916.htm

as I wanted decent set for my (road) bike.

  13. Considering the Chinese ones instead of painting my bike, good for the road and track.

  14. QB Carbon do some of these kits too do they not? Think they are a wee bit more expensive but they seem to be good.

I have been reading the thread on Pistonheads too and it looks to me like they are very good value for money. Generally you get what you pay for but these Chinese ones seem to offer more than the price suggests.

  15. [IMG]chinese fairings,not bad me thinks!

  16. Is that the only photo you have of your bike Phoenix?

  18. i bought a set for the 998 from a guy called barry (cat remember the company name)he was recommend by the DSC mob and I have been very happy

    his number is
    07748 765842
he has his own mould of the 998RS fairings

you will still have to fashion mountings for the rear seat but the quality and fit is very good and they come colour impregnated (red yellow or black) so no need to paint if you dont want

many of the Desmodue boys have used and crashed these fairings and the seem to hold up well to the abuse or racing

they might be cheaper in white gel coat

cost under £300 delivered which isnt too bad compared the the chinese ones,

i have seen some very nice chinese farings but have also seen some the were damaged in transit and shipping them back would have cost £150!! i have also heard the stories of them disintegrating at speed on track, but i take these stories with a pinch of salt

so answer is your mileage may vary with chinese fairings
