1200 DVT Crash Bars + Fog Lights

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Rusty Eyed, Mar 1, 2019.

  1. Hi all,

    I have just bought a 2017 MTS 1200S.

I know that this has been discussed but couldn't find much pictures other than GIVI and TOURATECH (on member bikes). Too many comments but no pictures.

Here is the list of all the crash bars I have found so far,

    OPTION 1: TOURATECH (obvious)
    - Good looking
    - Hate the Silver (needs powder coating but its already too expensive for what it is)
    - not sure if it keeps the top fairing edge off the ground. Pictures are quite deceiving.

    OPTION 2: GIVI (£149)
    https://www.motorcycleplanet.co.uk/...406-engine-guard-for-ducati-multistrada-1200/
    - looks like something I would put on a 125.

    OPTION 3: IBEX/MOTEA
    https://www.motea.com/en/sturzbugel-ducati-multistrada-1200-s-15-17-silber-importiert-70000241095
    - This is quite neat but way low so not sure if it saves the upper half.

    OPTION 4: HEED (£165 approx.)
    https://heedshop.eu/en_US/p/Bags-for-HEED-crash-bars-for-Ducati-Multistrada-1200-950/303
    - Very industrial, but looks like its up for the job.

    OPTION 5: SW MOTECH (£179)

Fog lights does anyone have suggestions on any aftermarket ones other than the obvious Ducati choice. Looking for one which doesn't throw errors and easy to install, bright and wont melt / corrode with moisture.

Please be kind an post as many pictures of your bikes with the above products installed or any experience.

Thank you very much for reading.

  2. I had Heed bars on my old Explorer, good quality and looked good, your link goes to the crash bar bags.
My 2013 1200 touring has Givi on, so I bolted on some eBay spots.
Can’t help on the later bikes though

  3. Do not buy GIVI. They trash your radiator when the rear lip of the front mudguard hooks over the cross bar on heavy braking. I have the evidence to prove it. Look at the bottom row. Givi told me I should not have put my rear part of the mudguard back on. Feckin aresholes. Told them I would slag em forever & that to not put mudguard back as the bike was sold to me it would be sub standard.

  4. Keep your eyes peeled on ebay. I got my Genuine Ducati ones 2nd hand fom a guy in Poland. They are great but again be careful as the genuine Ducati spot brackets do not fit with some of the aftermarket bars like mine. I could not use the genuine ones that came with them & made my own stainless ones see photo. Paid £150 for both with wiring harness.

  5. Givi have obviously listened to you, and done what they should have done to start with, the crossbar is now rotated 90 deg so it sits UNDER the rad, I've no issues so far with my full mudguard hitting or catching the bar under harsh braking, from your POV (if you still have them fitted) its a simple job to re drill the holes so it will rotate out of the way, I'll add a pic when Ive taken one in a min

  6. Please do as I already tried that.

  7. pic is up now, you can see a couple of small marks where its obviously been touching but its not snagged on it (yet)o_O
the only issue I can see is if they have bent the cross bar differently on my set....

  8. No picture.

  9. on my original post

  11. I am out at moment but when I get back I will see if I still have pictures of bro up & bar down. The ones pictured on eBay when bought did not resemble what I received. I sent them a picture & they said it was correct. EBay ones showed a hoop in the centre about 100mm high. Mine is about 20mm. No more than a kink.

  12. Just seen your pic same as mine. When it happened I was moving some & went over a sharp crest . It was when the forks compressed that it hooked over.

  13. yeah Mine hasnt snagged even under full on braking but I agree with you, from a company like Givi it should fit better

  14. There final answer to me was. In the instructions it says remove the rear extender from front mudgaurd & nowhere does it say to replace it. I replied so to fit givi bars I must render my bike substandard.

I’ve attached a photo for you to reference when looking at crash bars
I’m not sure any of the bars would have prevented the damage.

  16. Just a point to clarify, though this maybe mentioned elsewhere, the original Ducati Fog Lights are not attached to the crashbars. I have fitted the lights to my ‘15 MTS without crashbars. I fitted them myself but still had to return to a dealer for them to advise the computer/canbus system to allow the handlebar switch to turn them on.

  17. Check out HEED crash bars.

I dont have one yet, I just dropped my bike on stand still only cracked the RH hand guard and two small paint chips which I dont really care. what ever crashbar your hand guards will get smashed I think. but you can save the body work.

  18. Picture included. The 1st pic is mine. The 2nd pic is mine rotated backwards The 3nd pic is what was shown on ebay. Clearly not the same , although GIVI said they were. I tried rotating mine to the rear as your & redrilling the holes. They caught again. Just to check. I have set my suspension up Using the tyrap on the fork leg & checking distance travelled during rides. Last pic Radiator damage due to Givi.jpg spots3.jpg givi bars as ebay ad.jpg Front preload 2.5 small.jpg

  19. for some reason this looks like the crash bars they put on 125s in India.

  20. I do not have a cross bar on now . I removed it & capped the ends off with finishers. Or chair leg ends
