1200 DVT Headlight Adjustment

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by MotoNik, Mar 5, 2019.

  1. Can anyone tell me if the headlight angle can be adjusted? I'm getting a lot of on-coming cars flashing their main beams at me because I'm dazzling them. I've tried rectified it by adding more rear preload on the electronic suspension, but ultimately it'll need properly sorting by tweaking the headlight down a bit.

  2. Yes. On the pre DVT bike you remove the 2 small panels that cover the rear of the light unit as you would to change a dead bulb. There are 2 knobs for each side for up/down and left/right. I guess it'll be the same for the DVT. Andy

  3. Thank you Sir.

Bit of fettling planned for tonight, so will take a look.

  4. I have the same issue, some pics would be great when you are at it.
    Thanks in advance!

  5. No. To adjust the DVT you remove a cover under the bottom fork yoke. 3 screws from memory. Under there is a single bolt that adjust the up down. Side to side not sure. You do this from the front of the bike.

  6. I might have my models mixed up but didn't the DVT have a 13mm bolt tucked up under the headlight unit to adjust the whole unit up and down?
It is (was in my case) accessible with a socket on a long extension bar from between the fork legs. It needed lots of turns to make any real difference.

  7. Correct.:upyeah::upyeah::upyeah:

  8. I could open the user manual that's currently sat in my living room, and find the answer in there, but it didn't seem terribly much like the modern thing to do.

  9. Three 4mm allen bolts to drop a cover off (from memory) and then a 13mm socket and a 150mm extension and wind bolt in pretty much all the way until it stops... at least that's how it was on my 15 .. my 17 was similar but a bit less.. I think 2 turns out from fully tight

Screw the bolt clockwise(doing up) to bring the light down.

Replace the cover and 3 screws.. takes less than 5 minutes..

  10. Great, thanks Simon. I guess I might need to do a bit of trial and error to get it right, although at the moment I'm distracting air traffic so I can't make it worse!

  11. Took the following this evening; apologies if they’re a bit blurry.

As mentioned elsewhere, 3 x 4mm Allen screws, and the plastic cover comes off. Note that on my bike (Enduro) there is a steeering damper bracket behind the plate, and two of the screws hold that on too. I don’t know if other models have that.

The adjuster screw is a bit hard to get a socket on, but with a bit of faffing I screwed it all the way in, and it lowered the beam significantly - six inches or so on the inside of the garage door that wad about six feet away. Might prove to be too much on the road, but it’s only a quick tweak to adjust again.

Thanks to everyone for your replies.

  13. I should think so too. No go and stand in the rain and have a good long think about what you’ve done wrong! :p

  14. In all seriousness, it may be because of the bigger front wheel on the Enduro? Just a guess though.

  15. I have had a front end wag 2 or 3 times now & not going slow. Did'nt fit one but still look at them.

  16. I have adjusted mine as far down as it will go and it is still pointing too high unless I set the suspension to pillion. So think next time I get bored, and have a multistrada in my garage instead of the shop, I will try fitting a thick washer in front of the top two mounts, just to tip it down a fraction more

  17. I dropped the yokes 5mm on my 17 Mut, to speed up steering a little and have the opposite issue(lights low) so seeing how to adjust has been most helpful. Cheers.

  18. Ooo now know the endure comes with a steering damper, I can see a project coming on here.

  19. I am guessing that the underside panel is made of steel not plastic as the damper connects to that piece

  20. It doesn't so much connect, as locate. The cover is plastic. The screws go up into the bottom yoke, so the screws themselves have threadlock on, as you obviously don't want the steering damper falling off.

If I adjust the headlight again I'll take some more pics of the damper.
