British Indy: What Happens Now?

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. It was just meant as a comparison.

    I've never voted Tory.

Which party do you suggest ?

  2. Nathalie The Bird - good name!

  3. No, what I meant was that backhanders, bribes and bungs are the nature of the beast for most people in power in most countries. You'd expect that to be less prevalent in the UK or Switzerland, or Scandinavia for example. But in most places, people in power (even local bobbies in Italy) will abuse that power to make their lives more comfortable financially. Paying these people well is the first step to avoiding this scenario. So it might look pricey, but you're better off in the long run if they are well paid.

In any case, you know what they say: pay peanuts and you get monkeys.

  4. It's also 7 years old.

  5. I hadn’t looked into the backhanders and bribes - are you saying £7k a month is not enough so they have to take bribes to make ends meet. :)

  6. No. I'm saying that paying people in power well means that they are less likely to take backhanders - or fiddle their expenses.

  7. If someone is giving you the keys to the sweetshop and you don't have to account for the costs, it would see many eat, a lot

  8. So what you're saying is, people have natural limits to their greed.

    Eg
    Politician A - Salary £20000 - Bribery Income £80000
    Politician B - Salary £50000 - Bribery Income £50000
    Politician C - Salary £100000 - Bribery Income £0

    That's how it works, right?

  9. No - It's a secret

  10. Goat dammit. So much trickification and obfuscery.

  11. So they are better now 7 years after the spotlight was on them  or are you saying they are worse :bucktooth:

  12. You seem to quote some fairly narrow pay bands towards the junior end of the scales.

For instance, the nurses pay scales are published:

    https://www.nursingtimesjobs.com/article/nursing-differences-in-roles-and-salaries/

Staff Nurses get £21k to £28k, but Senior Staff Nurses and Ward Managers get considerably more.

  13. Similarly, for firefighters there is a nationally-agreed salary structure.
The starting salary for a trainee firefighter is £22,459. When full competence is achieved, this rises to £29,934. Higher rates apply for overtime.
Crew manager salaries range from £31,816 (development) to £33,934 (competent). Watch manager salaries range from £33,905 to £37,112.

  14. Too much, but their salary is probably less than half what they get for retainers for advising businesses.

  15. Roughly half what an MEP earns then.

  16. on my annual Birthday bash to Belgium. travelling down the motorway towards France i arrive at a complete closure
They are taking all the lorries off.
never seen so many lorries parked up. they let me through
Went to a tobacco warehouse and they told me the French have been practising by stopping all frieght at the border to prove that they will need more staff
The Belgians are having to find places to park lorries so they can let them go a few at a time to stop the motorway grinding to a halt
We Brits are not the flavour of the month

  17. It was on TV yesterday, apparently the French lorry drivers were protesting, they are demanding higher wages to cover any delays.
