hi all I’m looking to get a top box for my 2010 s touring multi for a bit of extra luggage space and more so for a bit of back support for the wife.do I go down the givi route or try to get a second hand Ducati top box ??
I use a Givi monokey V47 which you often see on eBay and sometimes on here. Just need to get the correct adaptor plate. Andy
Hi Xanadu... I replied to your question re the rack (Still for sale?) I hasten to add, I have a top box too. Givi 47, off the top of my head. All removed from my ‘11 Mut.
Pretty much the same thing, Givi make the Ducati box. Be aware, a lot are sold used with no lock, or the plastic sleeve the lock fits into so try and buy one with these parts. You can buy a lock set so your key does box and panniers. Cheers Mick.
I’m not sure if I read somewhere that the givi top box pushes the passenger forward quite a lot ?? Anyone know if this is true.can you buy a givi box with the back support pad built in.
I’d suggest Krauser luggage as an alternative. It’s very well made and way to install. I bought a set and used it for a few years with no issues. Competitively priced too. There is a supplier in the U.K.
If you use the ducati topbox plate you can fit a Givi box onto it, just make sure you buy a monokey, as their other ranges have a different mount. Obviously you can use a generic givi monokey mount, but they are similar price to the ducati one and don't look anywhere near as good when the box isnt fitted imo. I strongly suggest you also buy/use the support arms. The ducati boxes have the pad built in. You can buy a pad for (some of) the givi boxes too. There are a lot of boxes, so you would need to check which you can get the pads for. The ducati is essentially very similar to the 55l givi one. The only reason a givi box would push the pillion forward would be if the mount is forward too.
Good point. I should have said that two of my full-face helmets will just fit in the top-box, but others on here - not mentioning any names - may find otherwise ...
I use a Givi V47 Monokey top box with the Ducati supports on the plate. It holds 2 full face flip up helmets, size XL and S leaving room for other small items like gloves. It has the silver coloured top plate which matches the silver inserts on the Ducati panniers (2015 model). The hinges look as if they would be uncomfortable for a pillion to lean on but mine hasn't complained as her back armour absorbs them. She would prefer a Givi back rest as she had one on my previous bike. That did push her forward and made things a little cramped for me so I'm resisting at the moment.

Aha. Noobie your top example was the one I had which pushed my pillion forward into me, although she found it comfy. I wasn't aware that there was a shallower one which would fit my current top box. Looks like I'll have to get the one shown in your second example
Hi Xanadu, I have the Givi Trekker 52Ltr on my 2016 1200S, works a treat and she who 'must be obeyed' is very happy with it. The backrest is comfortable and it doesn't push her too far forward so she can still move around if required. Also worth mentioning that this when used in combination with the aluminium Givi Trekker panniers (I have the 48Ltrs ones) doesn't cause any issues when opening the pannier tops. With the aluminium Trekker box option they can clash and not be as easy to get into as you would expect. There's another thread on here somewhere with pictures about this. I have also modified an older style Givi carrier plate adding a car headrest (from a Mitsubishi Shogun if I remember correctly), this bolts down onto the plate already fitted to give her a backrest without box, very simple to make and fit.
